thinking of picking up a new tablet to replace my gen1 apple iPad.
primary use would really be just for lugging to the gym to reference fitness stuff, reading, and thats pretty much it. Since I am already firmly entrenched in the apple world, my first thought is another iPad, specifically the iPad mini 4. (full size iPad is simply just more than I want to spend, and is probably more than i want to carry size wise also). Question is this..Are there any alternatives to apple that are worth considering? The one thing I am not looking for is a headache..Not interested in something I need to buy extra memory for, or something that may have buggy software, or that has other issues that may make using it more trouble than its worth. |
| I just replaced my wife's and my iPad 2s with air2s. Couldn't be happier, got them both used for a very good price, from itards who had to have the pro. The mini is really a piece of shit to read on compared to a full size iPad, try one out and see for yourself. For actual reading a kindle paperwhite is better than any other tablet. |

I looked at them briefly in costco yesterday, they didn't strike me as being terrible, but I'm not really interested in struggling to read anything. |

I find the mini a lot closer to reading on a phone than to reading on a normal 10" tablet. Yes it's only 3" less diagonally, but that's like half the actual square inches. |

The new Amazon Kindle Fire 7 is pretty damned snazzy and it's only 50 bucks. Do just about anything an iPad will. Don't get me wrong. I've got Apple products too. But this new Fire really has my eye.
And it's got a micro-SD slot for up to 128Gb more storage. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=fs_ods_fs_tab_fd |
