I'm a new iPad owner and I'm already tired of the AT&T data plans. 15 a month for 250mb, 30 something for 3gb. A friend has a Sprint hotspot that I've connected to a couple times. He pays 30 a month for unlimited useage.

I don't think AT&T offers any sort of an unlimited plan.

So, I can cancel my AT&T plan. Is a hotspot a viable option? What brand would you recommend?

I use Verizon and have a MIFI but it is more like $50 a month

I travel a lot and it works great most places

you need to find out which company has the best coverage in your area.

EDIT: I use a Iphone thru AT&T and the verizon data coverage is way better than AT&A data

A Mifi-type device would be fine when you're on-the-go.  Check out the providers that do well in your area.  If you live in a bigger city, odds are the 3 big players will be fine.

In your house...you can hook up to your Wifi connection and you won't have to use the Mifi

You're going to have a hard time finding any providers with decent coverage that will give you a decent deal on data.  Verizon is just as expensive if you're not grandfathered in on an unlimited plan

Sprint I-phone with unlimited data plan.

Jailbreak the phone, install PdaNet through Cydia (sinfulrepo).  Open PdaNet on the I-phone, set up a wireless network encrypted and with level two tethering hiding, then log onto it with your I-pod.  When you don't need the wireless network for tethering, just turn off the PdaNet wireless network.

Done deal and not more money out of pocket over just the Sprint I-phone with unlimited coverage alone.

Yes, I do use my home wireless connection. A Mifi is what I was thinking of. Thanks.
