well i was laying down today, thinking.( I tend to think about complete BS.) when I thought why do they call W double U not double V. (U+U=UU) (V+V=VV) VV lookes more like W then UU. Just a thougt...

Its not fucking funny. Picture all the Canadian flag jokes with the Stars and Stripes. Is that funny? Thats my flag we're talkin about! I hold my hand on my chest for the US National anthem and I have cried while its being played. I hold the flag of this country near and dear to my heart. It is my new home and I love it here but DONT disrespect my flag! NOT EVER! I DO NOT SEE THE HUMOR AT ALL! I am Canadian by birth and American at heart but that is still my countries flag. I ask that you respect it. |
No, but noone has so far offered one lame attempt at an apology here either. And believe me, I am offended. I am still pissed about the the American womens hockey team walking over our flag. Americans, by and large, hold the Stars and Stripes in great respect but feel free to disrespect other flags and call it a joke. |
In the old Gothic type set, the U's were V's and vice versa. So you get words like loue, saue, vp, etc. So when you put two V's together, you get a W which is pronounced like a long U. Look up an old page from the King James 1611 Bible on the web. You will see what I mean. |
have to second this WITH a sidenote. CaptainPooby was sent an American Flag that was found IN THE TRASH! Why did it go to him? Because he showed his respect for the Stars and Stripes. This man hung it with pride and posted pics of it. Second is agree that when it comes to our allies, we should show the same respect for their flag as we expect they should show for ours. PERIOD! Lets face it, if ANY one of us were to move to another country and while we are there someone defaced YOUR flag of the country you came from... tell me that wont get you hot under the collar. |
Thanks. Canadians went to battle in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam (Yes, Vietnam--even though some draft dodgers fled to Canada, many Canadians died 'In Country'), GWI and Afganistan. They did screw things up with Iraq the second time around, but you can thank the French politicians. Most people don't realize that a large percentage of the uranium used to make nuclear weapons in the U.S. came from Canada. As a Canadian, I have more respect for the American flag than a lot of Americans. A flag represents the people of a country, not their backward politicians. |

Actually, "W" is supposed to read "upside-down M", but it's too long to say. So "double V" was reasonable, but "V" also stands for venereal, as in "venereal Dz", which is unclean. Hence, "double U" is closest. Eventhough it doesn't make sense, but it's clean nevertheless.    Yeah, I know------> WTF |
