So I just got back in from Miami last night, and sure enough I get a call from the squadron execs telling me to come in to the office as soon as I get the message. That means only one thing--- i've been "randomly" selected for a drug test. Well, I called them back and let them know I was still on leave until thursday. You know, they really don't make a good case for drug test selection being "random" when EVERYONE coming back from leave is "randomly" selected the day they get back. Out of my UPT class who took leave after graduation, every single one was piss tested within 3 days of coming back. If you're going to piss test everyone coming back from leave, then fine-- cook up a policy memo about it and be up front. Don't blow smoke up my ass and try to tell me that selection is 100% random. |

ha. at where i work they "randomly" pissed tested today, only thing is, they only tested the 2 guys we all know are pill heads. or they will get all the druggies and throw in me and a preacher, cause they know we will pass, and it will look like it was fair, that is so funny to me |
As long as you don't have to be the meat gazer what's the big deal? |
I thought they made it widely known that you get drug tested after coming off leave, that's SOP. Nothing random about it. |
yeah! what were you doing in miami??? |

I don't mind taking a piss test for work. I know I'm clean. I grew out of that phase in my life. It was time for me to grow up Since I started at my new job 3 months ago, I took the initial test and then I was "randomly" selected about 2 weeks later. It's all worth it. I love my job and I'm pretty happy right now. I still like my beer though. ![]() ![]() ![]() eta: Thanks for serving. |
That's the point isn't it. I'll rephrase it: Is the point of drug testing to ensure safety or absence of illegal behavior? |
I don't really mind it either. It's a minor annoying inconvenience. What bugs me is they try to bullshit us into thinking it's somehow random when it's blatantly evident that it damn sure is NOT random. |
If they just made it policy that you were drug tested after coming back from leave, would it be better? Serious question. |
You may want to read the policy. It appears that the AF has a number of non-random urinalysis testing approaches: ● Random Urinalysis Testing ●● Random drug testing of military members is accomplished on randomly selected days no less than eight times a month. ●● Members are selected on a random basis by a DoD-certified computer program. ●● Due to the randomness of the computer selection some members may be selected to provide a sample several times while others do not get selected at all. ●● The urine collection process is the method used for drug testing and strict adherence to chain of custody procedures is required to ensure forensic defensibility of the drug testing results. ●● Results may be used for UCMJ or administrative actions, including adverse characterizations of administrative discharge. ●● Installation support and teamwork is essential in maintaining an effective program. ●● Detailed guidance is contained in AFI 44-120. In addition to random testing, several tools exist for testing when commanders suspect drug use. ● Voluntary Consent Testing ● Probable Cause Testing ● Commander Directed Testing ● Self Identification Testing ● Rehabilitation Testing There is also dorm inspection testing and squadron testing - neither are random. They apparently have a new initiative called Operation Nighthawk which random selects people as they drive on base on days, nights, weekends or even holidays - just selecting them at the security gate. |
correct. they feed us a line of BS about it being "random", when it clearly isn't. |
| I made the mistake of saving leave and not going home during Christmas Exodus in 1988. Got UAed every day. Random MY ASS. We were working half days and EVERYONE in the company (all 12 of us) had to fill cups every morning before PT. It got so bad we would fill TWO CUPS every day, just so the piss drinkers wouldn't go thirsty. |
