If you are like me, I like to have a nice stock pile of spare parts for my weapons.
Here is a list of what I think, is the critical spare parts for the M&P. For the 9mm/40- 1. Locking Block Factory Part Number- 277590000 2. Trigger Bar Assembly Factory Part Number- 279280000 3. Striker Assembly Factory Part Number(s): 393790000 or 279770000 4.Sear Housing Block Assembly, StandardFactory Part Number(s): 277640000-NOTE: This will be the one with the lock in it. If you have the key, you can remove it. 5. Recoil Guide Rod Assembly Factory Part Number(s): 279740000 6. Ejector Factory Part Number: 277630000 7. Extractor-I got this at http://www.speedshooterspecialties.com/catalog/displayitem.php?rowid=832&type=M&P Extractor Sorry, no factory number. |

This is one are though I want to concentrate on this year, I am not going to purchace any firearms this year and buy mags, spare parts for what I have, and of course ammo. Dog1, do you have any idea about what a total would be in cost for the spares you listed, and would smith be the cheapest place to order, or would brownells or midway be cheaper? Thanks! |
| I have bought every spare part for my M&P's from Speed Shooter Specialties. I have around a $120 bucks so far in spare parts that should take care of whatever breaks. I have found that these guys have more stuff in stock than Brownells or MidwayUSA and have better prices. Just my .02cents |

Other than the mossberg lever 30-30 I bought in january, I am not going to buy any guns this year. I do plan to buy spare parts, mags and ammo as I can though. |

That's an interesting list, and seems pretty comprehensive. I note that you do not include the coil pins that hold the sear block and locking block in the frame. Is that an omission, or have you never needed to replace one? Just asking. I just got my M&P9 FS, have less than 500 rounds through it, but have taken it apart once just to see the insides. I cleaned what little there was to clean, but there wasn't much. On another forum they seem to be big on having those pins on hand, and the one the extractor pivots on, so I wonder what your thoughts are.

#1 Never broke a locking block in over 60,000 rounds fired.
#2 Same, never broken one #3 Yes, they break sometimes, make sure it is pre fit so it is a drop in part that you know will work. #4 Never broken #5 Never broke but have lost. #6 Never broken but easy to lose. #7 I would have replacements for all springs. #8 I would have a complete set of replacement pins. #9 I would have a striker spring retaining cup #10 And an extra FSB spring cap. |

I'm seeing guide rod/recoil spring assembly replacement recommendations ranging from 5k-50k live rounds.
Spring test seems to be: * lock slide to rear on empty and safe gun * holding vertically, release the slide stop * observe slide going into battery with positive force to stay in battery * if slide bounces out of battery slightly, replace recoil spring I haven't had to replace anything yet on: Full size M&P .40 M&P 9C M&P Shield 9mm |
