| I have a Glock 20, Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm (1911), and Colt Delta Elite (1911). I hear good things about the Dan Wesson Razorback and the CBOB in 10mm. And as was mentioned Colt is bringing the Delta Elite back. Also, Vltor is bringing the Bren Ten back as well. I also heard good things about Fusion 1911s in 10mm (longslide optional). |
+1! This is the only Glock model that I've seriously considered buying. Why? So that I could have a "practical" handgun in 10mm with 15+1 mag capacity! Dude, the 10mm is an absolute MONSTER of a round if you get the right ammo. Buffalo Bore makes the hottest 10mm load that I know of: "Heavy 10mm" 180 gr. Speer Uni Core - J.H.P. (1,350fps/M.E. 728 ft.lbs.), that's standard .41 Magnum ballistics right there, chief!  If I hunted in an area where bear, or other grumpy large-toothed critters roamed, (in addition to my rifle) I'd have a Glock 20 strapped to my hip as a back-up/SHTF piece for sure! I can't think of anything more "discouraging" to a charging bear than 16 rounds of Buffalo Bore "Heavy 10MM" pumped right into his face!  This kind of power is probably just a bit much for "human v. human" self-defense applications...

I don't mean this to sound like a commercial - I just like their ammo. I shoot Double Tap ammo from my G20. I run it with an aftermarket six-inch barrel. My favorite is the Nosler 135 grain - 1600fps / 767 ft.lbs They also have a 200gr WFNGC they call the Beartooth - "This hardcast Wide Flat Nose gas - checked bullet will not deform on impact, and will create a large deep wound channel. Excellent for hunting or woods protection!" - 1300fps/ 750 ft./lbs. And, of course, their Equalizer is a really interesting round - a 135-grain bullet AND a 90-grain ball that make two holes in the target with each pull of the trigger. Every time I pull out my G20 at a range and empty my first mag of DT ammo, someone always comes up to me asking what caliber gun I'm shooting. My second choice for a 10mm would be a Delta Elite. |

Think the Glock is the best bang for the buck. I used to carry a 1076 and also had a 1006, shot them both to pieces; slides were rattling around on the frames real bad. In the end, accuracy was shit for both guns, about 8-inches at 25-yards. they don't seem to hold up well to a lot of shooting and they're heavy. I also had a Delta Elite I sold to my ole man as I needed money for books while I was in skool. He still has it, but it's "semi-retired." He only brings it out a couple times a year with light loads. I sold my second generation G20 to one of the wife's co-workers. I had a lot through it and it held up well, now he's put quite a bit more through it in the last couple years, it's holding up great. Very strong gun and still super accurate. Only reason I sold it is that I wanted a third generation G20 with the finger groves and light rail, now I holding my breath to get a G20SF. Still have my Smith & Wesson 610. It's a great pistol, but a bit of a novelty. Did shoot USPSA on Friday, a guy in our squad was shooting an EAA Witness in 10mm. We talked a bit and he absolutely loved it. He's got thousands of his "match loads" (not full power 10mm 180gr at about 900fps) through it (still seems awfully powerful) and also some close to a thousand rounds of full power 10mm ammo through it. Neat gun and it seems to be holding up well. I also had an old Springfield OMEGA, but sold it too before I got to shoot it much. |

I shopped long & hard for a 10mm for my truck gun. Despite owning several Glocks in the past, I just could never learn to love their mushy trigger, thus the Glock 20 was out. The Kimber was right at (or over) $1,000!  Kinda defeated the purpose of having a "truck gun", IMO. The shop had a used S&W 10mm semi, can't recall the model. Nice price, but I wanted a double stack for the "capacity IS one's friend" logic. Finally, I went with the EAA Witness in 10mm with the Starvel (sp?) finish. With the ramped bbl, the gun eats anything it's fed. 15rd mags so I don't "feel" underpowered. What's not to love?

Well, I agree that 500rds is a bit too soon for a new spring.  I did notice that the mag springs on my Witness were too weak & I replaced them with Wolf +10% ones. No doubt the recoil spring may be too weak from European standards, perhaps? |
You need to run a recoil buffer in the 10mm Witness. ETA: I broke 2 frames and 3 slides.. No problems now with the buffer.. |
But where will one buy parts when/if they need them 5-10 years from now? This is the issue that plagues a new gun from a non-major gun mfgr, IMO................ |
Perhaps Vltor wil work a "deal" & have a major handgun manufacturer actually build & market it kinda like what Magpul did with Bushmaster and the Masada/ACR. Then parts won't be such a problem. |
