At christmas I got a barrel re-crowning kit from brownells. It came with a 11 & 90 degree cutter, brass pilots in 9mm & .30cal.
Yesterday I decided to experiment on my CZ P-01. I started with the 90 deg. cutter to make sure I had a proper face and then finished with the 11 deg. The barrel looked good and uniform but won't know the end result until I shoot it. Shot my P-01 today and I am very pleased to report I gained about a 15-20% increase in accuracy. One caveat, it does magnify an improper trigger squeeze and will not make a bad shot into a good shot. But my groups were tighter and at 15 yards you can have one clover looking group if you are that good. |

There was nothing wrong with the barrel just to start off, I was experimenting with some new tools. My result was not expected but what I observed.
My theory is, that when they ship out the guns from manufacturers the barrel crown is proper but does have a level slop. When cutting a 11 degree target crown the bullet leaves from a more uniform muzzle and the slightest amount of improper trigger squeeze is noticed more. I believe the trigger pull is more important to accuracy than anything else the shooter does while shooting. I am a good marksman but I am not perfect. I noticed that if I slightly flinched or pull the trigger the result was more drastic on the paper than before I recut the crown. When I state that it increases accuracy I was referring to the size of groups and the ability to place the holes on the target more adeptly. The likelihood of me shooting any point on the target was easier to achieve than before the re-crowning. |

I have noticed one thing with the CZ 75 style guns in general....they make you work for your accuracy. You have to shoot right. Proper grip, proper sight picture, proper squeeze....it's really odd. They are not forgiving in my experience. That being said, when you get a CZ down pat....you damn well can near shoot ANYTHING else REALLLLLLLLLLLY well. That's one of the fascinating things about the design. I don't think it was intended....it just worked out that way. |

I have always shot my CZ P-01 straight. |

Interesting. I'm looking on Brownells website and all I can find is a crowning kit for around $400. Is that the one you got? Look under chamfer tools. the tools i have are the 11 degree (79 degree is another name they use), 90 degree crown cutters. T handle and you will need brass pilots in the proper caliber. It should be around $150 to get the tools with a brass pilot. |
