| What's the difference between these two? I checked glocks website and they don't have the 17L listed |
|
Quoted:
The 17L has a 6.02" barrel and the 34 has a 5.31" barrel. The 17L is less popular because it's too large to use in some shooting sports such as USPSA and IDPA, that's why Glock made the 34/35. Glock only imports the 17L and 24 (.40 cal version) in limited batches every few years. The last time they imported the 17L was 2011 as far as I know. The 17L is awesome, I love mine. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q226/Russellgw07/Glock17L10.jpg I have a 2012 model. Haven't seen any this year. |

Thanks! If you ever have the chance to pick one up jump on it, you won't be sorry. They pop up on the EE every once in a while. I used to have a 24C (.40 cal ported version of 17L), but sold it maybe 10 years ago when I stopped shooting .40. About 2 years ago I started really missing it and picked up that 17L like new off gunbroker. It's my favorite Glock. So much fun to shoot; the long sight radius makes it really easy to shoot it well. I use it in local steel matches that don't have size limits, but I'm picking up a 34 Gen 4 next week to use for USPSA.

17L is the better pistol over all. As mentioned before the 34 is made it fit game lengths, and is also a little easier to find holsters for (although there are several great holster choices for the 17L). I use a Comp Tac International slide, works for all Glocks from the 26 up to the 17L |
| I believe, and I'll be corrected if I am wrong, another difference is the trigger. Doesn't the 17L come with the standard 5.5lb trigger? The 34/35 models come with a 4.5lb trigger. May not sound like a lot, but I did feel the difference. I know it is not huge deal as a lot of people swap out the trigger components. |

Some of the early Gen 2 17Ls might have come with the standard connector, but any made in the past 10+ years should have come with the minus connector, extended slide stop and extended mag release like the 34/35. Mine came with the extended controls and "-" connector. Some blue label long slide Glocks also have come without extended controls and "-" connector, but the blue label 34 I'm getting next week does. |
| I have a Gen 1 17L with original ported barrel. I purchased an additional barrel given the reported issues with barrel breakage of the ported models. It shoots beautifully. The "-" connector seems tuned perfectly with a crisp and light pull. I have dropped in "-" connectors into other models but they never shot as well as this one. |
