In advance I want to say thanks! I need help and I'll make this as short as possible. It's been a while since I had a 1911 and I REALLY want one. Questions! 1) I have $1000.00 which manuf. and type considering the following. I keep hearing about competitions like ISPA and others which I would like to try (just for production models) I believe this is with paper and steel targets, but don't I need a 1911 with a high capacity capability or is that just the high cap. magazine????? In all likely hood I will just be shooting it with a bunch of buddies on a home made range but who knows. Again I really could use some help. Thanks Semper Fi Guuny   (Keep Our TROOPS Safe)

For under $1000, I would buy a Springfield Loaded or a Colt XSE and spend the other $200 or so on mags.

are you refering to IDPA or IPSC?

dont know the specifics on IPSC, but i do know in IDPA: "NO", hi-caps are not necessary

heck, you are limited to 10rnds anyways....

He won't need highcaps in USPSA/IPSC either. He can compete in Single Stack class.

if you use a 45 1911 in IDPA, 8 round mags max, 9 total in the gun at the beep, this is CDP class.
USPSA, a single stack 1911 can be used in 2 places l-10 and single stack.
L-10 is 10 round magazines, Single Stack is 8 round mags.

Now if you want to get into USPSA Limted class. You need an STI in 40 cal that will hold 20 in the mag.

Open you want 38 super or "9mm major" 24 round guns.

Production is Glcoks, P99, Ruger P85, Bertta 92. 9mm is your best for factory loads as this division is scored minor. A 10 round 45 is going to kill your splits compared to a 9mm.

You guys have been great and thanks   BUT   like alot of things alittle bit of knowledge is dangerous. I'm getting confused????? Would I be better off with a 9mm vs 45cal.?? This is not a crry gun, home protection and range. It seems like a 9mm with a high capacity you could compete in alot more things. And I'm not sure about the split time that was mentioned. Thanks Again. Will try not to bother much more. Gunny

I would go with a 45. in a 5 inch 1911.

If you want to compete with it. the 1911 will run in both USPSA and IDPA.
Someone will always buy a used 1911 in 45.

If you already have a pistol, use that to see if your going to like the sports. A division can be found for just about any normal handgun.
