Ok, so as ya'll know I just got a brand spankin' new SA Loaded 1911 yesterday. LOVE IT. Now I want to accessorize a couple things.
1. Grips - Anyone have a good reputable site with lots to choose from? I am thinking I want a white marble/ivory looking set, but I am definitely open to influence. 2. Holster - Where do you carry your 1911 and in what? I would almost like something that has a strap that could come down behind the slide between the hammer when it is cocked and locked. 3. Ammo - What self defense rounds would you suggest? Gun shop guy told me hollowpoints sometimes have feeding problems in 1911's. 4. Magazines- If you could only carry 2 magazines you had to stake your life on, what would they be? 5. Anything else I should consider? |

Grips - VZ grips .... www.vzgrips.com Anyone have a good reputable site with lots to choose from? I am thinking I want a white marble/ivory looking set, but I am definitely open to influence. 2. Holster - Galco Leather but their are many more just my preference and you have to find what fits you best Where do you carry your 1911 and in what? I would almost like something that has a strap that could come down behind the slide between the hammer when it is cocked and locked. 3. Ammo - I use Winchester PDX Bonded 45 ACP 230gr Speer Gold Dot 230gr is my other choice What self defense rounds would you suggest? Gun shop guy told me hollowpoints sometimes have feeding problems in 1911's. 4. Magazines- Wilson 47D's or ETM's ... Tripp Research (top of the line) If you could only carry 2 magazines you had to stake your life on, what would they be? 5. Anything else I should consider? |
1. VZ Grips, Alumagrips (kinda partial), & for some real ivory look up Paul Persinger in el paso. He did a set for me on a vaquero. Awesome and expensive.
2.) Milt Sparks IWB summer special & a wilson combat rapid response. 3.) Pick one, stick w/ regular pressure not much gained w/ +p in a .45 in my opinion. I like hydroshoks & Wichester Rangers, 230 gr. Shoot some & see what happens. I would guss you gun will have no issues w/ hollowpoints, if it does this can be fixed easily. 4.) Wilson 47d & Tripp research w/ the nod going to Tripp. McCormicks arent bad either but for the $$ go w/ wilson or tripp. 5.) Not really, Maybe have a trigger job done if it needs it. Buy a bunch of ammo & mags then go shoot. get a few recoil springs to keep on hand & change it about every 1000-1500 rounds. 16# or 18# up to you. I'm not getting into that argument (i run 18's though) |

1)Vz grips have a good selection, and i think they have some of the best quality out there.
2)For a holster you can never go wrong with a milt sparks, both my dad and my grandad use them. 3)Ammo i use Golden Sabre's they are a Black Talon wannabe but still show impressive spread in water testing, they'll hurt worse coming out than goin in (i still have a couple mags of black talon 4)For Mags either the wilson or CMC power mags. i use the 10 rounders NEVER had an issue. |

Shoot it as much as you can afford and get to know it if you're gonna carry it. Trust the 1911's safety systems. They've worked for a long time. Spend more than you think you should on the holster and belt if you plan to carry, or you won't carry it more than a few times before you're sick of it.
Ok, so as ya'll know I just got a brand spankin' new SA Loaded 1911 yesterday. LOVE IT. Now I want to accessorize a couple things. 1. Grips - I have Davidson's grips on my Springfield. I carry daily and they are comfortable and beautiful. Just search "Davidson 1911 grips"Anyone have a good reputable site with lots to choose from? I am thinking I want a white marble/ivory looking set, but I am definitely open to influence. 2. Holster - I carry mine IWB with a Comp Tac Minotaur. Very comfortable and has carried 3 different guns over the last 2 years Where do you carry your 1911 and in what? I would almost like something that has a strap that could come down behind the slide between the hammer when it is cocked and locked. 3. Ammo - Your Springfield shouldn't have problems feeding hollowpoints. Send it back if it does and they'll make it right with no hassle. Any decent name brand hollow point that feeds okay should be fine. Even a ball .45 leaves a big hole... 4. Magazines- I use Chip McCormick Power Mags in mine. Only used 8 rounders and they've worked 100% If you could only carry 2 magazines you had to stake your life on, what would they be? 5. Anything else I should consider? |

Gun shop guy told me hollowpoints sometimes have feeding problems in 1911's. Gun Shop Guy is full of crap. Recommend: 230 grain Federal HST 230 Grain Winchester Ranger T (RA45T) 230 Grain Win Ranger Bonded (RA45B) 230 grain Gold Dots In no particular order, and they all meet the FBI/IWBA criteria so arguing over which of the 4 is "better" is not really productive. I usually carry the Gold Dots, if for no other reason they are usually the easiest to find. |
