I bought a SA GI .45 1911, I dont know a month or so ago, brand new. It has the low profile sights and only came with 1 magazine. It has a feeding problem.. sometimes I get a mag that works flawlessly, but most of the time 1 round per mag doesnt feed right causing it to jam, and I have to dink around trying to get the bullet out.. this isnt normal. Do you think it could be the magazine? Or is it the gun do you think? --- on a side note, at 10 yards I could barely hit a torso size piece of paper, maybe 1 round per mag would hit it.. I mean 10 yards, I take my Dad's browning hi power 9mm, and I hit it with all the rounds no problem, so I don't think its me, unless its the low profile sights that has me screwed? Or do you think it just isnt accuarte? because I know some people who have them and swear by them, saying 5" groups at 25 yards... Do you think I should send it back to the company? Also, do I need a FFL to send it to Springfield? Or can I send direct? -David |

Try some wilson combat mags, and see if your loading problem goes away. Also you should give whatever you are currently using time to breakin.. even my wilson mag malfunctioned at first, but leaving it loaded for a couple of days it fixed itself. The low-profile sites could be why you have trouble hitting anything. |
| Springfield has some crappy mags. The one I got with my Mil-spec jammed as well. Sold the pistol but am in the market for a loaded in a few weeks. Already have the Wilson's and am going to ask the guy at the gunshop to just toss the mag in the trash when I buy the pistol. This time I'm not even going to mess with it. |

Hey! Don't give up...Give it a 200 round break in period and try different types of ammo. The 1911's can be finicky especially if your grip is to tight or to loose. A loose grip can also cause feeding problems as well as accuracy issues. Too tight a grip and you end up with the shakes and fatigue which can also throw off your shots. |

What ammo were you using? The Springfield mags are, as stated, not the very best available, but they should feed and work fine with FMJ factory 'ball, I think. Your accuracy issues are really...really...bad. My guess is this is about you and not the gun, but that is NOT a "slam" on you...maybe you are not used to it yet. I would get an accomplished shooter to fire it for you and see what happens with them behind the trigger. The standard GI should group under 2in. at 10 yards with decent ammo! Try some new WW white box 230gr. FMJ, Federal American Eagle, CCI brass case Blazer or Remington yellow box and see if you still have problems. You can send to Springfield without being an FFL, but receiving the gun back from them may be a different issue for you. |
| i was having similar problems feeding ammo into my SW1911, and put about 700 rounds through it and was still getting failures to feed, so I called Smith and they told me to send it back. Just spoke to them the other day and they told me they changed the barrel and spring, and that it was shooting just fine..now I just need to get back so I can go have some fun. If you're still having problems after about 300 rounds or so, I think I'd call SA and see what they have to say about it. |
Just got my Springfield loaded back and they replaced and tuned my extractor. I was having FTE problems with all kinds of magazines including Wilson 47Ds. |

I called them and talked to them, he said that if they have the same problems as me while they test it out, they will pay for it to be fixed (by them) and reimburse me for the shipping, if it has the same problems, and that I can ship direct to them, and them to me. -David Thanks for all the help. |

Don't knock the GI. I have one. I fired a 9" group at 100yds. It's not my Kimber's 3.5lbs, but it's a mil-spec. You get a lot of gun for what little comes out of your wallet. It has a classic look and I don't care if it gets dinged up in the field. |
