Having built an AR now, are the 1911's as easy or more difficult to build?  Can one purchase a stripped lower and then go with a parts kit, or pick and choose parts ala-carte?  How is pricing on going this route compared to outright purchase?  Any recommendations on starting places?

I've got a SA GI.45 and love it.  Am interested (if it's not too difficult and no machine work required) in building a similiar one but with a stainless frame, blue slide, nice grips, night sights and maybe a larger mag well.

TIA-

1911's are definitely more difficult to build than AR's. Lotsa fitting, special tool requirements to do it right. Charles the Gunsmith.
