Does anyone have experience with these:

I'm thinking about picking up a cheap 1911 in .45, is this a good deal or should I go with RIA. I've seen a lot of positive remarks about the RIA, but haven't seen anything on the American Classic. I would really like something "GI", but the American Classic doesn't look too crazy. I'm an engineering student, so I'm interseted in cheap to get started. Next year after I graduate I'd like to build a 1911 (I already build AK's). Anyway, any coments on that paticular mode?

I have a Metro Arms American Classic II. It's a great shooter and a bargain. My biggest complaint was the cheesy plastic grips which is easy to fix. I have since done a few mods to it.

I had one and sold it.  No real complaints, just found something I liked more.

Many Rock Island Armory owners over on the 1911forums.com swear by their guns.  It is roughly the same price point (see Buds Gun Shop).

Just offering it up as another option for a "cheap" starter 1911.

I have to agree. RIA makes good pistols for the price. I have a Rock 1911A1 in .38 Super and it's very reliable and accurate.
