Ok so having been a Glock man for the last 17 yrs, I recently had a buddy who fell on hard times and had to do a liquidation sale. I picked up a Kimber Ultra Raptor II unfired for $600 bucks.  So now I have the 1911 bug and want to pick up a full size to play around with. I'm not looking for a tack driver or anything, just a good solid range gun. So my question is this, what are the pros/cons of a 4 inch barrel vs a 5 inch? I have a chance to pick up a used but in great condition Springfield Champion for a good price or should I go with a full sized SA Loaded???

Brand new Ultra Raptor for $600? I'd be calling that guy up and asking him if he has any other guns he wants to sell. Kimber isn't my favorite brand and the 3" 1911 always has sketchy reliability but that was the deal of a lifetime.
Anyway, I'd get the 5" model if I were you. Preferably from the guy who sold you the Kimber.

I hate to say it because I know that alot of people love them but I cannot understand the need or desire for ultra small or even commander size 1911's. If they were truley easier to conceal then I'd understand but they really are not.For a range toy....it's your money but a full size is a much more fun blaster IMHO. I had an officers model and along with having pretty heavy recoil it was not very reliable. Now a bobbed grip...that would make it easier to conceal. |
