Could someone please point me to a book, website, or maybe a thread here on arfcom that lays out parts compatibility between the pre-70(A1?), 70 series, and 80 series.
I'm particularly interested in the pre-70 to 70 series models.
Thanks

Almost all 1911 parts are over sized and require hand fitting.
I learned the hard way, but gained a good bit of knowledge by rebuilding a colt 70 series 9mm.

So called 70 series and pre 70 are interchangeable. Series 80 has changed to hammer firing pin and associated parts. As mentioned all 1911 parts require fitting for optimal function.

To further muddy the waters you can convert a series 80 to use series 70 parts. A "filler" is needed to fill the gap in the slide/frame as seen from behind.
