| where can i get used 1911 frame for a build. i dont care if they war frames. want to go low cost. i have the parts to build. thankyou ira |

Cheapest will probably be a new frame actually from caspian or to go really cheap sarco has a bunch. Also keep eyes out on gun broker or the ee
You may have seen/ heard this before or not but here goes- slapping a 1911 together is a lot more difficult involves much more fitting and skill than an ar . For the cost of parts you would be much better served buying a rock island or low end Brazilian Springfield than building your own. |

As said above about difficulty. SARCO frame (RIA/Armscor I believe) $119 here: |
| Foster Industries is the "factory outlet" for Caspian "blem" frames. The problems will vary from unit to unit, and availability fluctuates from week to week, but I recommend them for someone who wants to build a 1911 and really learn the design. "Blems" will not be functional flaws. They're usually a cosmetic flaw, or at worst, a machining error in some non-critical spot. |

Perhaps some tool marks on the trigger guard, or something minor, but never any of the voids that they warn about. I would buy more from them, but I think I have enough unfinished projects already. My last Foster frame/slide turned into this: ![]() |

if you find an essex frame, run, dont walk away. they are A STEAMING PILE OF SHIT. I whole-heartedly agree! But a buddy of mine has been shooting an Essex frame and un-marked slide with who knows what small parts for the past 18 years. This guy shoots a match at least once a weekend and never gets tired of it. He's on the third barrel, a few extractors and an ejector and probably other stuff. The gun always runs like a top, since he got it back running after the last barrel anyway... |

If the pin holes are in the right spots. And the feed ramp is cut to something close to the right angle. And if one side of the frame is not a whole lot thicker than the other... |

today won a essex 1911 frame, should get it next week. i have a early colt slide to put on it. iwill shoot and try to get pic. for ya'll. thanks for all the help. Congrats and good luck. I picked up a gun show special a few years ago--WWII era top end on an Essex frame. Bought it for the price of the parts but shot it occasionally over a couple years. Was actually more concerned about the old slide than with the cheap frame. Eventually reassigned the old GI parts and used the frame for a "dedicated" .22 with an Advantage Arms target top end. I know a lot of people have had problems with Essex frames, but my only experience with one was positive. |

I have built several guns using Essex frames. They both turned out very, very good with no problems. The pin holes ,rails and everything else was correct in place and dimension. This was about 15 years ago though. |

sounds like i must have bought there dinner. but i am glad i got the frame coming. could not wait to do first build. I wouldn't sweat it too much. From the sound of it you bought the whole lower half, not just the frame, correct? If the other parts are of decent quality, and if everything is properly assembled, you did okay. And if it was already built and functional, I'm going to guess that the holes, etc, are all to spec, so maybe you don't need to worry about that possible problem. Keep us posted on the pistol! |
| got the essex frame, well it was in bad shape, the safety was really loose, and my slide went go on about half way. the man said he would give me my $ back. but good news a man at the gunshop said he had a COLT series 80 frame put together. paid $400.00. slide fit perfect. have fired reloads 230 gr. 200gr. and factory without any problem. thank the Lord. will get pics. up maybe tomorrow. not pretty but i love it. thanks for everybodies advice. |
