I recently traded for a Dan Wesson pointman. It was in good shape, not much wear, slide sat on the frame with no movement, the trigger was crisp and it was basically free. Anyway, when I got it home, I took it apart and cleaned it real good. I noticed that the extractor looked a little worn, so I preformed an extractor test. I shot 16 rounds through it, 8 strong handed, 8 two handed with no mag in. Shells should have landed anywhere in the 2 to 5 o'clock position. But what happened was that some stove piped, some went to my left, some went down through the handle, and some went over my head. Only 4 out of the 16 went into the 2 to 5 o'clock position. So, I ordered a new extractor from brownells (John Mason brand). I have not shot it since the install, but now when I have the mag loaded and pull back on the slide rounds get caught up on each other and won't get out of the way. What's going on with this thing? Any advice with wear to go from here?

This brass came from the gun.

It's a good possibility that your existing extractor is in need of adjustment.   Most likely needs to be tightened up.

I'm afraid you may have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire with the Masen extractor.  Masen parts are mostly unmitigated junk.   Since the extractor is no place to skimp, something like the EGW, C&S, or Wilson bulletproof extractor would have been a better pick.

Agree with Ken here.  Get a quality extractor.  JD
