I'm picking up a 1911 tomorrow that I got a decent deal on (It's a Springfield Armory). The reason I got a great deal is the front sight being wobbly. Since I'm a 1911 idiot, school me on the process.

Should I replace the sight? Fix the sight?

How hard would you say it would be to install a standard stake sight?

If it doesn't require a full refinish,
Drop a couple bucks, have a dovetail cut and put on a sturdier sight.

Suggest that you have a smith either restake what you have, or install a new sight of the same type.  No refinishing required.  A guess would put the cost at $25. A dovetailed sight is the better solution, but you're probably looking at $100+, plus refinishing if it's anything other than a stainless slide. You can always do the latter if you want to seriously upgrade the pistol in the future.

Thanks for the response guys. I'll pick it up tomorrow and decide how to proceed. I hadn't considered the Dovetail option.
