New to 1911's. I shoot and reload for my S&W 4566 and 4506, but never owned a Colt.

A fella's got an older Colt for sale, I'd like to get it but know little about the values of these

fine guns. Basiclly it's a 1911A1, 1942 Serial, w/a Union Signal slide. Slide and frame seem

to match in color (worn) and cond. Little if any bluing left, functions fine. Mix-master I'm sure,

but still cool. He's asking about $700.00. Opinions? Comes with an "S" marked mag. Thanks.

Price is not bad for a G.I. shooter. Actually, I would give him the $700 tonite. The frame is worth nearly that and the USS slide is one of the more valuable ones (assuming no modifications to either). Then you have each and every part to sell - I think I could squeeze about $1100 out of it that way. If you look at it as a cool shooter to show up with at the range, it's hard to beat at that price. The WWII slides were hardened at the trouble spots and usually hold up, but it's not something you want to pound every week at the range. Clean and oil before shooting, and make sure you have a new 16# recoil spring and an extra-power firing pin spring in it before firing.

Thank you for that advice. The slides been polished a bunch in the past and this has made the

USS hard to read, but the frame is in nice shape. If I purchase this pistol. I'll be sure to change

out the springs. My thanks to AR15.com!
