The only "down checks" I see are that the front sight has been replaced after market with what appears to be a Colt Patridge Target front sight.
When this was done at the factory, Colt also replaced the standard Accro rear sight with a Colt Ellison Target rear.
I can't see in the picture but the front sight appears to have some sort of white marking, which is also not factory.

Second down check is the trigger shoe.

Third, the grips may have been replaced.  You only saw nickel plated grip screws and bushings on Bright nickel guns.  The grips themselves are the correct Second Type of Colt Target grip used during that period and they do have the correct Gold Colt medallions.

"In general" most any 6" blued Python from the 60's in decent condition will start around $1,100 and up.
The grips themselves are worth well in excess of $300 these days.
A wised-up Python buyer would deduct a little for the trigger shoe (which will have left marks on the trigger), for the incorrect non-factory installation of the Patridge sight, and the probable switched grips.

Bottom line, It's a 1960 Colt Python.  People in gun shops are happily clawing each others eyes out for a chance to buy one at steep prices.
I'm seeing these sell in internet gun auction for upwards of $2000 and more.

Forgot to add in the first post...........
There's a chance those are the incorrect style of Target grips.  Right around 1960-61 Colt changed from the First Type fully checkered Target grips to the Second Type like yours.
Exactly when the change happened is uncertain.

If you'd like to restore the front sight to the original type, Kensight sells the original type plain black ramp front sight.  Colored inserts didn't appear as standard until the late 1970's.

So in your opinion should I hold onto this gun and pass it down to my son or is the value at a high right now and I should unload it?

I would not sell it unless you really need the money.  The prices on Pythons seem to be on a steady climb.  I would not be surprised if they ease up a little bit, but they will come back in the long term.

It also may depend on how you "recieved"   the pistol if it was Dad's gun you might want to consider it a family herirloom. If you recieved it from a friend who owed you money there is nothing sentamental about it.

My grandpa won the gun in a poker game back in the early 60's.  It has sat in his safe ever since.  He was too worried that it was stolen to take it out of his house.  He just kept it in the safe for home protection.  I had the sn ran and it is clean.  So lots of history their.  I dont really need the money but have no plans to shoot it.  I think maybe I will find a factory box and give it to my son for a college graduation gift.  Hopefully he can buy a car with it by then :)

Keep it. The value of Pythons just keep going up. I purchase my first 6" 60s Python ten years ago for $600. And a 4" 5 years ago for $700. Now you can't touch either one for under $1500.

Even if Colt brings them back (please, please, please) the value of the older one will go up.

If you plan on doing that.... Maybe you should remove this ad.

Poor decision.

Not bashing you, but down the road you will regret.

I hate it when I do things like that.
