Hello all,
Im just tryin to figure out who to buy my fist 1911 and hand gun from. Im going for plain jane mill-spec (or something close too it.) Right now im thinking STI, Solt, Springfield Armory, or Kimber. The budget is about 800 or so. What are you recommendations?

Springfield Armory GI/WWII is a good place to start. I think the Taurus 1911 is also a good starting point. If you want to go even lower the RIA would be a good starting point as well. For 800 you could even about get a Colt.

At that price, I would get the Springfield Armory loaded parkerized model.  Just under $800.  You get a good finish (parked), night sights, beavertail grip, ambi-safety, skeletonized hammer, and aluminum trigger.  Basically, everything I ever want in a 1911.

Bud's Gun shop is having a sale on their Sig 1911's, not a bad price. Otherwise a Springfield "Loaded"  is a good gun for the price.

+1

if a plain jane is in order, the SA mil-spec; the only others i'd consider for that budget would be a Colt (series 70, mk IV, XSE, etc)
