I picked up a Model 22A this past weekend, and just figured I would share my experience!  I was just looking for a simple, easy to shoot, but rather accurate 22.  I wanted something that I could go to the plinking range and shoot all day, just to have fun.  Picked this gun up for 280 OTD, and got 2 500 Rd. boxes of American Eagle for 9.50 each.  Went to the range the next day, and had a blast!  Shot through the first 500 and absolutely loved it.  This gun is deadly accurate with the 7" barrel.  I got my glock 17, and shot 100 through it (i guess just to get some real kick and not feel like a child at the rangehad
Thanks for the good cheap fun S&W!

killthewabbit has one of these & I was pleasantly surprised at how well it shot & balanced. One thing he did that I liked was change to oversized grips as he (& I) have large hands.

I have one for about seven years and just had gotten it for my kids to learn shooting without wearing down my nicer .22s. With it's four inch barrel it's balancing pretty well.

We now have about 75,000 rounds through it. The gun still looks pretty good for it but then, around 60,000 rounds S&W replaced the frame. It also has the second sight rib and third firing pin, many springs have been  replaced. The hammer spring had become quite a bit shorter and the trigger pull much lighter - to the point of frequent misfiring. The mags still have the original springs.

I cannot praise this gun enough - especially since I only paid $125 plus tax for it
