I am looking at buying a 22/45 for target practice.  Does anyone have any experiance with them?  How close are their grips to those of the venerable 1911's?

Thanks for your help!

Sweet gun, lots of guys here have them (including me) and we love them!

It's a pretty good copy of the 1911 grip and fire control.   However, the new MK III 22/45 or whatever it's called, has a DAMN GOOD copy of the 1911 grip.

Either way, it's money well spent.

It is a neat pistol. A 22/45 was the first gun I bought. I think it's a nice starter to learn the fundamentals.  It does have a reputation for being a challenging pistol to dissasemble/assemble.  I tend to think it's a well deserved rep too.

Mine would occasionally jam, but then again I'd shoot 400 or 500 rounds at a whack too. The front site would work itself loose occassionaly too. I should have just put some loctite on that.  I let it go eventually.

It was great fun to shoot though.  I'd buy one again if I had the spare bucks.

I really like mine.

It is hard to reassemble the first few times.

It will jam too.

I suggest using a solvent that does not leave a residue for the burnt powder to "cling" to. Such as Hoppes Semi-Auto solvent. Or, follow cleaning with a brakkleen douche.

Agreed.  Mine runs great.  Only problem I've had with it is the front sight coming loose, but that was fixed with loctite.  Only other problem is the occassional bent bullet on the feedramp, but I believe that that has more to do with ammo than the pistol.  Have about 4K rounds through mine since I got it back in may and my only complaint is disassembly/reassembly.

My Girlfriend got my one for Christmas 6" Bull barrel 22/45  I shot it sunday and it was sweet and acurate.  I'm very happy with it.  I am thinking about getting one of those Houge (sp?) slip on grips for it.

Get one!  I added one to myine and I love it.
The only down side is that when you finally decide to clean the gun is it can be a pain in the ass to get off and back on.
But  luckily they don't need taken  apart and cleaned all that often, I usually only clean mine with a Q tip and some CLP

No they were shot at 50 ft.  I just noticed the targets said 50 yard Small Bore, I should have specified the distiance.

I'm starting to shoot at 75 ft but my groups are suffering.  I can only produce groups like that at 50 ft and under.

I just got one fot Christmas, and lemme tell you, it is already one of my favorites! The pistol is a joy to shoot, and is accurate too! As for the grip, the angle is that of a 1911, but the width is alot narrower. Like Jeep Driver I fitted the grip with a Hogue slip on rubber grip.

The only wierd thing about the 22/45 is the trigger seems to "kick back" forward after the last shot. I don't know why it does that, or if any one elses does it.

Make sure you don't get the Mk3. Unless you like magazine safeties and loaded chamber indicators that will fire the weapon if you drop it.

I much prefer the 22/45 because it's lighter than the MkII which I find to be on the heavy side (I'm not target shooting very seriously otherwise I might appreciate the weight).  Mine balances very well but it's suppressed and takes a lot of weight off the front end.  It used to be a MkII but the lower was swapped with a 22/45.

I just don't like that super extended floorplate on the magazines, everything else is better though.
