Is there a semi-auto 22 MAG that is small enough for a pocket or ankle holster? I already have other firearms in the same cal. and am interested in one for a BUG. Thanks, Jeff |

The 22 MAG has better balistics that all between the .25 auto and the .380 Cal Vel. Energy .25 auto 1100 94 .25 NAA 1200 112 .32 auto 1050 147 .32 NAA 1150 176 .22 MAG 1480 195 .380 1050 220 All are cor-bon numbers except the .22 mag which is winchester. This is all for not if there is not a 22 that is reliable for carry. I'd rather have one that is a little less powerful but works....... Thank, Jeff |
AMT used to make its Automag II with a short 3.4" (IIRC) barrel:![]() This one is over on gunbroker: www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976743032.htm No it is not mine. The thing you need to remember is that even if energy were a direct measure of effectiveness for self-defense, the barrel lengths tested with each type of ammo vary considerably, and skew the figures. |
for a gun that size, i would rather upgrade to a 9mm/.380 Khar or Kel-Tec...how about those .22mag revolvers made my i think american arms or something? |

Because of the length of the cartridge, the .22 Magnum doesn't lend itself well to small autos. The .22 Magnum is a good BUG caliber, it was well revered in the older days as being a very effective round for that use. No less an authority than Bill Jordan was quite fond of it, and lobbying S&W to develop an airweight J-frame .22 Mag. Today we do have just that, the S&W 351PD. If you want a small .22 Mag pistol, I think that's the way to go. I've looked at them myself, but for the money I think much more effective pistols can be had. |

Kel-Tec P32 3.5" tall, 5.1" overall length, .75" overall width, 9.4 ounces loaded (using 7 round mag) 7+1 .32 ACP, 10+1 with extended magazine (and this one still fits in my back pocket every day) Kahr MK9 4.0" tall, 5.3" overall length, .90" slide width, 24 ounces loaded 6+1 9mm, 7+1 with grip extension With these and other similar choices, why would you want a rimfire? If it's money, save up until you can get something more formidable. I would never trust my life to a .22 anything. Yes, I know it's a backup, but you have to assume there's a chance you would actually have to use it. I have several .22's (even the NAA mini revolvers), but they don't get carried. You can do much better than a .22 Magnum. Added: The NAA mini in 22 Magnum is a handful. Groups about the size of a dinner plate at 5-6 yards and that's about it. Kicks like a mule. Fun though. |

There was a gun mentioned on here before that was bigger than a BUG but it carried 30 rounds of .22 Mag in a mag that still fit in the grip. It looked to be about the size of a Glock 17. IMO, that's a formidable peice of firepower for a handgun. +1 on the 351 PD. It's probably you're only option as of now. |
You are thinking of the Grendel P-30. |
