Kimber makes one.  Do any other companies?

Should you only be using Kimber's kit with a Kimber? Or could you put it on another make of pistol, say Springfield or Colt etc.?

Many companies make them.  Marvel, Ciener, Wilson, TacSol, and Advantage Arms come to mind.

The Kimber should work with any standard 1911.

I use a Kimber kit on my Springfields.

I like it.

Didn't expect so many companies to choose from.
Any order you would rate them in?
Thanks for the input.

I have not used them all, so I can not rank them.  I have heard of satisfied customers from all of them.

I've got an older Colt Conversion on mine.  Slides do lock back.

One item that gets a lot of people riled is whether the slide locks open on an empty mag or not. Kimber, Wilson, and Ciener do not and the slide is aluminum. Tac Sol and Advantage Arms do but the mags are pricey and the slide is made of steel. Some of them are notorious for being finicky about ammo. Do not expect any of them to be a tack driver except maybe the Marvel.

I have a Tac Sol. It will run with cheaper Kimber mags (1/2 the cost of Tac Sol mags) but the Kimber mag does not hold the slide open. It also runs Rem, CCI, and Fed bulk ammo reliably. It hates Winchester and fails to extract it a lot.

Good to know.  Thanks for all the input.

I thought Ciener actually made kits for several other companies (Kimber, WC, others???)...

JAC at one time made Kimber's conversion I think but Kimber now makes thier own. Wilson Combat's conversion is a Marvel "Unit 2" I believe. No one seems to want to have to deal with JAC and his non-existant customer service. Even Brownell's has dropped his product, that should be a clue .
