I know the first ones were plagued with issues, but I have heard that the problems have been resolved. I am in the market and am strongly leaning towards the 238. For those that have purchased one this year, how is your reliability?
Thanks |
| I got one probably over a year ago. I heard some people complaining, but mine has been reliable, never jammed, and it is frequently covered in sweat, which dries up and turn into salt lol... It has also been under heavy rain with me and it keeps working. Does not like the hornady critical defence round. |

I've had my wife's for a few weeks now. Right out of the box it was fully functional, but bone dry. A little lubrication and it's been flawless so far. I highly suggest the extended 7-round magazine with the finger extension - it makes a world of difference in the handling of this pistol |
| I can't wait to get one.. I have some crap I need to take care of first, but soon... I really like the SAS model because of how smooth it is, though I'm not sure this will actually result in any tangible benefit while carrying. Anyone have experience with the SAS? |

When they first came out I didn't like them due to the cocked and locked method with a hot chamber. Condition 1 is great for a rig in a firm holster but in the pocket gives me pause. That was until I got to play with one recently, the fairly stiff trigger along with the firm safety dis-engage is a pretty nice combo. I'm contemplating trading in my J-frame for a 238 or a 938.
I too have read of teething problems with these guns but it sounds like Sig has worked all the kinks out by now. |

I have one, its been 100% reliable over 600+rounds. My first time shooting my 238 was in a snow storm and I shoot quite regularly in bad weather, no rust or anything. I also do a lot of off road motorcycling and routinely shoot while exploring, so my 238 gets pulled out of a holster covered in dust and shot. Also my wife has one and hers has been 100% over about 400rounds.
Oh and to add I have been known to pocket carry my 238 with no holster, the safety has never been flipped off on me. |

I can state with authority that the wife's P238 does NOT, repeat NOT, like the WallyWorld Winchester White Box 380 (100 rd. value pack). These are the 95gr. bullets that look like copper coated semi-wadcutters. They are unreliable in the P238. Period. Too bad I bought so much of it for my other 380s. Every other type of ammo I've tried has functioned flawlessly. FYI. |

My 238 has been 100% reliable with ~1500 rounds through it, with one anomaly. I shoot Hornady Critical Defense for carry, primarily Winchester White Box and Remington UMC for range duty. 100% reliability with those three, and whatever random stuff I may have picked up along the way.
Anomaly: I picked up a box of Tula at WalMart yesterday, and couldn't get a single round to chamber at the range today. They were sticking out too far. It's the first Tula I've bought for this gun, although I've used their .40 without problems in the past. Is this a known issue, or did I just get a bad lot? Here's a photo, hotlinking because it's big. The cartridges are L-R: WWB, Hornady, Tula. The Tula stuck out .034" more than the other two. http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/3002/comboc.jpg |
