I've read all over about past "nose diving" issues with the 24/7 .45... I had heard they were resolved long ago, even asked the guy at the store in which I purchased my 24/7. He said he had heard nothing of the sort and had sold several of them and all customers were happy. I purchased mine mid October (yes, I know the above should have been a warning, but I was feeling frugal), so it's not a 1st year. The first day out I put 100 rounds through it with out a single jam. Cleaned it. Took it back out 2 weeks later and jammed on the 2nd mag. I'm still having issues after a round is fired the next round dives down and hits just below the feed ramp. Does anyone else still have this issue with their 24/7's? - I've stripped the gun and cleaned it top to bottom - Insured no GSR, burs, etc were left behind or possibly causing issue - I've stripped all 3 mags and cleaned them top to bottom - It seems to happen more with 1 mag then the other 2 - Problem does occur with all 3 mags, but more so with the one - All 3 mags are OEM and were brand new at purchased - Happens most when I use Federal Brass Eagle 230g FMJ Anyone else use this ammo with this gun??? Thanks for any help or suggestions... |
It's a possibility, not something I even thought about. The problem started prior to mag cleaning, that is why I took them apart. I had read someone found dirty mags out of the factory... Thanks for the idea! |

Just an update for Taurus users... I took my 24/7 back out yesterday. Ran 150 rounds throgh it. 3 different brands of ammo through it on 3 different mags. 2 were the mags that came with the gun, 1 was a OEM Taurus bought a week after. I narrowed the problem down to 1 mag. The other two had very little if any problems. The 1 mag that had the problem was the one purchased after the fact. The rounds are not moving all the way up, therefore the are not at the best position when loading into the breach. I got home and took the bad mag appart. I checked to make sure the spring wasn't tweaked, backwards, etc... Cleaned it and put it back together. I found that the follower doesn't go all the way to the top of the mag. It's stopping about 1/8 of an inch (maybe a bit more) short of the top. The others go all the way up. I checked the mag to see if it was bent but couldn't find anything. Infact, comparing it to one of the mags that came with the gun the structure is slightly different. I'm going to call Taurus on Monday to see if they will replace it being that it's past the 30 days the store I purchase it from will honor. I'll update with my experience with Taurus Customer Service. |

So I called Taurus and explained the problem. Told them it only seems to be one Mag, so they send a replacement fairly quick. Get new mag, problem still exists. Tore new mag appart, clean it, insure spring, follower etc are ok, clean, and in the right way. Still a problem, but now said problem is happening with all mags loaded to 12 (as they are 12 round mags). Tried different ammo, cleaned mags, cleaned gun after each outting, went throught he entire test process again. Still fubar. I call taurus again, they tell me to only load 8-10 rounds. WTF??? Load 10 rounds in a 12 round mag?? That is the answer? Ok, I'll play. Load 10 rounds in a mag. Same problem, jams 6 of 10 times. Try mag number two. Jams 2 of 10. Try mag number three jams 8 of 10 times. Tried 8 rounds in the mags, pretty much the same results. Called Taurus again, they said they will send new mags again. **Side note** This seems to be their standard fix for everything as I read other complaints about 24/7's. I refuse new mags. I shipped the gun to them about a week and a half ago. We'll see when it gets home! |

Too bad you've already shipped the gun, I have another experiment for you. Disassemble the mag and put a 'mag block' in it, i.e. a spacer that effectively shortens the spring, so that it provides more tension on the bullet stack. This will tell you if the problem is with a weak spring. Reason I suggest this is that my own mags (9mm Baby Desert Eagle) are hard to feed the last 2 bullets into; same with Glocks I understand. If you have a double-stacked mag you need much more tension than a single stack. |
