| So, I just put a perfect 29-6 8 3/8 on layaway. I have done some seaches on the endurance package this gun supposedly has, but can anyone ell me more about this gun- is it more capable for good .44 loads? I have been searching and searching for a shooter model 29 and finally found this one; I'm really excited. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Any help would be greatly appreciated! my book of "standard cat of S&W" 3rd ed, doenst show anything for the "endurance package" it could be sort of like a "standard" enhancement package offered by the PC. It does list a "Dale Earnhardt" special edition for the 29-6. im not sure if you handled any 29s, but with a 8.375 tube, its going to be really front heavy. Ive got a couple 29s and my fav now is the 629 classic with the 5" tube. to me its the most balance gun/barrel. im sure someone else will chime in with relevant info. |

Yes, the 29-6 does have the lockwork enhancements. They were started with the 29-3E and improved through the 29-5. Your 29-6 should be just fine for any factory loads of .44 Magnum. If you plan on shooting the .44 much, you had better learn reloading or have a rich uncle. Edit: And if you can find the Remington 180 JSP loads, they're a hoot. They hit 1650 from my 6 inch 29, so they should probably go close to 1750 from the longer barrel. They're also earsplittingly LOUD. I use them when people near me on the firing line start shooting better than I do. Solves that problem with a quickness. |

Oh, I've been reloading .44mag for about 15 years, but just for superblackhawks. Part of what kept me away from the 29s years ago was the general strength issue, but I decided I wanted one anyway. This is going to be more of a target/long range hunting gun, so the long barrel is welcome (I'm familiar with 7 1/2 and 10 inch .44s so this felt just fine). I'll check out the 180's sounds fun |

Don't worry, I've handled many 29s (I work at a gander mt in the gun dept part time to pay for the toys) |
