After waiting for the perfect deal I finally found what I wanted a G17 Gen3 in OD *Standard Sights

I had a G26 that I sold, was just to big for CC in the hot Florida Sun.(replaced with a P238)

First things I'm doing to the Glock,

-Extended Mag Release
-Extended Slide Release
-Stream Light TLR1s

On the wall about, (I have read up and still undecided)

-Scherer 3.5# connector
(I had a Ghost in my G26 and loved it)

-TruGlo TFO Sights Yellow back/Green Front
(Every other handgun has Trijicon but the Fiber/tritium of the truglo is interesting.)(How reliable are these, pro's and con's?)
-XS BIG Dot??

-Polish a few of the contact surfaces
(yes/No? I'm not trying to go cheap it just seems like a sound upgrade if not taken over board.)

Any other Battle trigger suggestions welcomed. I just really don't like the factory trigger.

Will post the pic's soon.
Thanks,

First things I'm doing to the Glock,
-Extended Mag Release Hate it––it sticks out way to far. If you must get an extended mag release then check out the Vickers.

-Extended Slide Release Hate it––it sticks out too far and in the wrong direction. Your thumb ends up riding it using a proper thumbs-forward grip, so the slide won't lock back on an empty mag. Using the support hand thumb to release the stock slide release is a better technique IMO.

-Stream Light TLR1s Good light for the money.
On the wall about, (I have read up and still undecided)
-Scherer 3.5# connector Hate it. I tried the 3.5# connector and went back to stock. Too mushy IMO.

I've tried a lot of different combinations, and I like a fiber optic front sight (or tritium with white outline) and solid black rear sight. The lack of distracting, glowing rear sight makes focusing on the front sight much easier. The TFOs are fragile compared to most other sights. No experience with XS sights.
-Polish a few of the contact surfaces

(yes/No? I'm not trying to go cheap it just seems like a sound upgrade if not taken over board.) Just shoot it a lot. The surfaces will polish themselves.

Honestly, just add sights and the light then spend the rest on mags, ammo, and training.

Night sights, magazine, holster(s),  light and ammo; everything else is just money down the drain IMHO.

Topgunpilot's responses will mirror my own.

I agree that the "-" Connectors I've tried in the past have seemed mushy, and I'll add the reset wasn't as crisp as I'd like.

I myself run NY1 Trigger Springs w/ stock Connectors, but that's just me.  I think the stock Connector/Trigger Spring setup is great too.

You say you "don't like the factory trigger".  It isn't perfect, like a well-tuned 1911...but think about it...you can learn to like it, to master it.  It IS possible, many folks (including myself) have done it.

I am also not a fan of extended slide releases or mag catches on semi autos, for the most part.  Definitely not for a "working gun", a carry gun.

No experiences with the TFOs, I've heard of folks who love 'em, and folks who say they're indeed fragile.  I run a Red fiber optic front w/ stock rear on one gun, Trijicon 3-dot greens on the wife's gun.  I really like the red fiber optic front setup.

I also advocate shooting the shit out of the gun, rather than "polishing bearing surfaces".  This way you get lots of training, while smoothing out the trigger system.

Great reply's thank you.

-Good info on the extended controls.
-The light is great and is just transferring from another project where its not being used.
-Trigger, the mushy feeling is what I'm trying to avoid altogether.
-Polishing, I was expecting someone would have that response "Just shoot it a lot. The surfaces will polish themselves."

Back on the sights,

I'm really having a hard time making up my mind. I keep searching and come up with mixed reviews.
I have also read that the TFO are fragile (90day warranty WTF?) but then again I have srt friends that use them on there duty guns.
I'm looking for something that is quick day/night and bullet proof. I don't ever want to worry about having to be too careful with the sights.

XS Big Dot, Dawson Precision, MeproLight, Heinie, Warren, triji. . .?

I have factory night sights on my duty guns because my department mandates them. However, I'm not convinced they're necessary with a mounted weaponlight since they will silhouette out with the light activated anyway.

Without a light, a tritium front sight will be faster in low light conditions. Tritium rear sights are distracting and unnecessary IMO.

Fiber optic front sights with plain rears are wicked fast during the day, but the fiber will need occasional replacement

IMO, the fastest "bulletproof" setup for all conditions is a tritium front sight with white ring and plain black rear. Warren Tactical sets would be good, but they are designed for a 6 o'clock hold. I'm looking at the Dawson setup for my next set:

You can also put  a trigger stop by LWD, because you are eliminating the over travel which is the mushyness.. That way you can keep the 3.5 lb connector and have a crisp trigger. Polishing the metal areas that touch each other just makes it that much smoother so you don't have to wait for the metal to for you after 1000's rounds.
