That gun gives me funny feelings.  I have always wanted one and consider it the perfect example of what I believe to be the perfect revolver size.

A close second would be the S&W CS-1

I had an old 3" Taurus 82 with the tapered barrel. Pretty good gun, but it shot about 8" left at 25.
Gave it to my BIL.

They seem to have very smooth pulls. I’ve heard that since they were meant for LE, S&W put extra care into the actions.
No idea if it’s true, but every one I have handled has been sweet.

Sharp eyes will notice that is a special S&W. Model 686-4 7 shot that I had a smith add a period correct factory 3" barrel. So essentially it is a 686-4 3" which I think is a combo S&W never made, but should have.

Very nice. Did you send the revolver in to Smith and request a barrel or did you have one on hand already for them to install?

I found the barrel on Ebay actually. I wanted that specific one because I wanted the nicer engraving. I don't care for the newer barrels with the larger crappier looking engraving.

I had Pinnacle High Performance do the swap.

Everywhere it seems people talk about the love for 3” revolvers. I share that love, but they are so hard to find ( I detest stainless so would much prefer blued which is even more uncommon) you’d think S&W would get the memo, with 3” pythons selling like crazy.

I sure if they did decide to do a run of 3” guns ( again they are real dumb not to- it is not like we are talking about a new model or major retooling effort)  the dumb asses would make them all stainless.

In the last decade they have come out with some somewhat interesting ideas the 9 mm 986/927 come to mind but again that stainless ugliness.

My grail gun is a 13 3”. I may have to settle for ugh stainless, as at least 3” 64&65’s do come up a bit more often.

Then there is that infernal internal lock too. I have owned a 3” 60 pro series and 22-4 with the lock and never had a problem with it, but do not care for it from a looks standpoint.

Kimber K6S in 3 inch

If you want something a little more compact, the 3 inch kimber is nice. Spendy, but that burn goes away after a while and you're left with a nice 3 inch revolver.

3" m19-9
In production at least 6 or 7 years.
The 2.75" m66-8 has been around a while too. They're both easy to turn into fix sighted guns with tritium front sights.

If you would really prefer black, you can order a python or king cobra 3"  from Colt Custom shop with the black DLC coating like they do with the Night Cobra. You can even specify a polished (instead of matte) finish.

Heresy but I handled one of the Taurus 856 revolvers the other day when I went by PSA and was rather impressed.  I'd like to try one of the 3" guns including the lightweight.  I'd also like to handle one of the new Rossi 3" guns- on their website they call it a small frame (Taurus small frame sized?) but I'm curious how it compares to the J and K frames.

After seeing them at a lgs now and then and reading that they
actually pretty decent,I picked up a 3" Defender a few weeks ago.
After comparing a couple of em, i brought one home, cleaned it
and dry fired it a bunch, the trigger was rough and heavy, off.the
chart on my Lyman gauge, I'm guessing 12.5 - 13 lb.
I put a handful of rd's through it the next night it's accurate,
so I ordered a Galloway spring kit, which made a significant
difference but I started having light strikes after 150rd's or so
then them same thing with a Wolf spring, seem's once the hammer
spring takes a set it just doesn't have quite enough oomph for some
primers but after about 250rds and a shit ton of dry fire, I've got a
smooth 11lb trigger with the  the oe hammer and Galloway rebound
spring, while it was apart, the hammer strut was pretty rough so I
smoothed it, out lubed the gun and put a little blue loc tite on the side
plate screws.
I'm 99.9% sure the light strikes were spring related, after I run a
couple hundred rd's to confirm, I don't normally carry a revolver but,
I'd have no problem carrying it, it's accurate and a good shooter...
Can't hate it for $365

Interesting. I've only used the Wolff kits but the only time I've had issues was with a 94 which is .22 so it wasn't unexpected and in fact they warn you about it.

To be honest with you, I never understood the appeal of the 3" Python? To me, a 3" gun is a Carry/SD gun and the Python.. well it just isn't IMO. That's why I went with the 3" KC.

Looks wise, I've always strongly preferred Blued/black guns over SS but for revolvers, I prefer SS for practical reasons. I like to keep my guns as clean as possible and SS revolvers are a lot easier to clean then a blued guns, especially the front of the cylinder.

It came w/ the moon clips.  The grips are available from Taurus, unfortunately Pachmayr doesn't have anything for it and the Hogues available have an exposed backstrap, which is not what you want in a 9mm revolver.
