I know the feelings on the gun, but I still own one and I still like it. Today I made a huge mistake while reassembling the 40VE: I forgot to replace the slide lock. I did a complete disassembly and missed the one part which I noticed after replacing the slide. Now I cannot remove the slide using the normal takedown procedure. Does anyone have an idea on what to do next? Thank you very much...

In my panic after failing to remove the slide I never even thought of that one. I appreciate that and will post the results... Brian I think someone got the slide stuck on an XD45 a couple years ago, didn't know what to do and they called Springfield and Springfield told them how to fix it. Now there are videos on Youtube telling people what to do or how to fix the problems |

Send it in to a service center seems to be the fix from S&W. I would rather not. I believe the reason it will not release the slide is somewhere in relation to the firing pin. All the take-down instructions list dry fire the weapon and then pull the slide back and press the take-down tabs to release the slide. I am not able to dry fire since I pulled the pin out over the trigger (it did not dry fire when it was in and I noticed the missing part). I am sure I screwed this up even worse somehow and will have to shell out $$$ I do not have to fix it...

| Solved: I used the information from this Youtube video about removing a Glock slide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37ZM3-5zeS0 |
