| My semi regular thread to promote the GAP. While I own and immensely enjoy 45ACP pistols (including a new and fun S&W MP45C) I am still impressed by the GAP round and the pistols Dr. Glock built for it. I had occasion to qualify today with a 400 round course of fire and the GAP chugged through all the way in 20 guns being shot by LEO's of varying degrees of ability. The G37 (issued)/.45 GAP round is a VERY accurate combination and the pointability/instinctive feel of the Glock pistols is second nature to me. The PQC was uneventful as usual with a score of 250/250 but the tactical courses was where the combination really shined. The recoil impulse is straight back and there is barely noticeable muzzle rise, thus repeat shots are rapid and true. I carried the G17 for 17 years and feel the G37 is more controllable and way more accurate. The Speer 200gr Gold Dot has been proven to be a fight stopper in our six deadly force incidents since it's adoption, much more pronounced than our previous issue 9mm 124 gr Gold Dot. The 9mm is an adequate round for defense but not optimal for Law Enforcement, especially in northern climates with the addition of extra layers of clothing. All in all I am very happy with my G37 as issued, my G39 in it's Alessi ankle rig (current daily wear due to assignment) and especially my personally owned G38. That one is a keeper. |
| I've been around 5 different Glock 37's and 1 Glock 38 and I'm impressed. I used to carry 45 ACP until I changed departments and couldn't carry cocked and locked 1911's. I've shot several of my friends Glock 21's and 30's and owned a Glock 36. With LE adopting the 45 GAP I think the cartridge will remain in production but maybe limited circulation. To me it is a vary viable option which I like. If I had the money I'd have a couple but since my current dept. issues Glock 22 & 23's I have a Glock 27 and Glock 35. I wish Glock would make a Glock model 40 tactical (45 GAP with the tactical 34/35 slide). Now that would be hard to resist for competition or duty! |
