Anyone have a good source for 45LC for less then a buck a round?
Thanks for any tips.

I know this is not the answer that you are looking for but the 45LC lends itself very well to shooting home cast lead slugs, I can shoot my home cast slugs over a load of WW231 that duplicates a standard factory load for about .09 cents each.
If you enjoy shooting your 45LC I would recommend that you get into reloading or find a Friend who dose and buy him the Dies and a mold.

As far as finding cheap factory 45LC I really can't help you, I have never found any myself.

i reload also.  trail boss powder with 200 grain round nose flat point.  new ammo is cost prohibitive i think.

Reloading .45 LC is the only way to be cost-effective.

Another on the reloading bandwagon.

A set of dies is cheaper than a single box of .45 Colt.  .45 Colt pricing is ridiculous.

I blame the high cost of the LC on the Cowboy Action Shooters and SASS.
Reloading that cartridge is good advice.  Starline (among others) have available brass and there are many bullet mold styles to choose from.
How old is that cartridge now - >125 years?

Finding brass is only problem reloading but if you do half the battle is over.I've been lucky lately and picked up 100 rounds factory loaded for under $40 a 50 and found 100 rounds of new brass and on back order for another 200.Lots of Unique powder on hand and have the dies so I'm good to go.Only local shop that has any 45 L.C ammo was wanting $60 a box of 50 and wanted the same for dies I could get for 40 at Midway. If you shoot much at all reloading is cost effective!

Sorry but the brass is going to run you about $0.30 per case. Thats a bit more than your stated 9 cents.

i think i have about 3,000 rounds i am guessing.  all loaded by yours truly.  when i walk into a store and look at the ammo prices for .45 colt i almost want to laugh at the ridiculous prices they are asking.

Straight wall pistol cartridge. Low pressure.  You can probably reload the cases 100 times.

You are right  dragongoddess, I did leave out the cost of the cartridge case, I have loaded mine so many times that I lost count. Of the original 250 starline that I bought 10 years ago I have only lost 1 to case failure and I load some super heavy 310 gr hunting loads that really thump.

The price of the case per load depends on your loading practices. The .45 Colt is on par with the .45ACP with regards to pressure, and I have .45ACP cases that have been loaded so often that the headstamp is no longer legible. At 30 cents per case, it's conceivable that case prices could go to half a cent per loading.

Not that reloading isn't good for other rounds but this one in particular just cries out to be reloaded to me. Between cost and what's available out there (cost plays into that too) I would defintely recommend getting set up to reload.

I was curious....has anyone tried or do they have a .45 colt load for a Ruger black hawk using shotgun powder?

Um that would depend. Many pistol powders are also shotgun powders...
What powder were you thinking of?  Blue Dot would certainly do the job.

I was thinking about drilling the brass and using shotgun primers with a different type of powder.  Shot gun primers are easy to find at this time and some of the brass has worn primer pockets otherwise the brass is still good.  I hate to toss brass.

Have you tried the Internet?  Seriously?

I bought my orginal stock of .45 Colt off the Internet (I reload for it).  Sportmans' Guide has Magtech Cowboy Action Loads for less that $00.60 per round.-  WX2-120947 Magtech® Cowboy Action Loads .45 Colt® 200 Gr. LFN 50 rds.  $26.97  Club Price $25.62 ($00.52 cents per round) or WX2-71522 Magtech® Cowboy Action Loads .45 Colt® 250 Gr. LFN 50 rds.  $28.97  Club Price $27.52 ($00.55 per round).

They also have Ultramax .45 Colt Cowboy Action Loads but its $00.61 cents per round at the Club price (WX2-33079 Ultramax® Cowboy-Action .45 Colt 250 Gr. RNFP 50 rds.  $31.97  Club Price $30.37).

Join the Club, use coupons to drop the price $10.  Just don't order 10K at a time, 4 times a month - because they will assume you are a reseller....

And yes, I've read the horror stories on here.  I've order tens of thousands of rounds from SPG over the years.

Or you can get your C&R FFL and buy from MidwayUSA.  They are slightly higher than SPG even with a C&R FFL for the Ultramax and Magtech, but have Black Hills ($00.72 per round but out of stock).

Been finding brass on here at the EE and on gunbroker, along with cast bullets! Primers are going through the roof as of late but I picked up 1K awhile back.Going to the lat Funshow saw someone selling reloaded 45 Colt for 35 a box...and he couldn't tell me what the load was he had supposedly put in them! I'm shooting the bow alot right now so what I have built up should last me.
