Greetings everyone, After taking my girlfriend shooting a few times, she seems to have fallen in love with a S&W 617 .22lr revolver. I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with these, in terms of long-term reliability? Would there be any reason not to get the 10 shot cylinder model over the 6 shot model? Are there any maintenance issues particular to revolvers that I should know about (I'm more of a 1911 / AR-15 guy myself)? What's a fair price in your area? Are any available used, or does everyone keep them because they're the girlfriend's/wife's favorite gun? |
| I have one that I bought new around15+ years ago. It works like a charm, very accurate too. I shoot a couple hundred rounds, then clean it with a bronze brush and Hoppes powder solvent, lube with CLP. It has thousands of rounds thru it. No problems at all. These are all 22's, the one in the middle is the 617 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/500magnumnut/22handguns.jpg |
| I have a 4" 617 with the 10 shot steel cylinder. I love that pistol too. I also have an older 6 shot one but have not shot it much so far, more due to the fact the 10 shooter has Hogue grips on it and I am used to that style grip. I have not heard any bad things about either setup. Only bad thing is they cost just about as much as the 686. I have had any maintenance issue with mine and clean it as I would any wheelgun. |
