Just picked this up at the local store.... Beretta 92g Compact L.

Trijicon night sights and two 13 rd. mags. for $425.

Looks to have been a safe queen. Exterior is immaculate with not a scratch or blemish.

Internals look just as clean with just a little wear on the metal guide rod 3/4" in from muzzle.

Serial # dates it to 2002. Hopefully I did well since I know little to nothing about Berettas. Needed something a little different for the collection so took a chance.

Any input would be appreciated.

Wow, great find.  I would love to own one.  The "G" model is highly sought after.

I've been wanting a compact Beretta. But know nothing about the different models. What makes the G more desirable?
By the way OP, that is a beautiful pistol!

Thanks bro, she's my fav. The "G" model is a decocker only model. The more commonly encountered Beretta variants have a safety and decocker - meaning that the lever on the slide operates as a safety and decocker. The "G" model lever pops back up and cannot be used as a safety. Most people prefer this, finding the Beretta safety lever to be awkwardly placed for quick use. Additionally, if using the slingshot method for reloading one can inadvertently engage the safety, something not possible on a "G" model.

"G" models are also rarer, adding to their desirability. The Compact models are also fairly scarce in number, so you have a bit of a rare beast there, being Compact and "G".

wow, the 92G Compact L is quite rare. Do you mind me asking where you picked it up? I am always on the lookout for more 'G' config models.

Many Beretta fans, including me, consider it to be one of the best versions of the 92 ever made. I recently bought a 92FS Compact L.

Up in Salem on Rt 28. Went with the intention of checking out a fullsize 92fs. The clerk going over his talking points mentions how the safety/decocker is different than the "g" model and pulls out the compact g that is  hidden  in the back of the display case to show me and I couldn't believe he was showing me a used gun.

I'm the one whose usually a day late and a dollar short when it comes to luck ,but not this time.

The "G" variants were the only ones authorized for carry by Houston PD in both the 96 and Cougar models when they moved toward standardized weapons (unless grandfathered in w/ another version).  My partner and I both carried 96G Elites.  Both very solid, reliable guns.

ETA: The run of G variants in the Cougar were made exclusively for sale to Houston PD officers (individual purchase agency) and it was later dropped due to poor sales, before the Cougar line was dropped altogether.
