will a new production 92 locking block work on a 92S?
I have a 92S with original box and paperwork that has been shot very little. I'd like to shoot it but I'd really like to put in a modern locking block and recoil spring if possible |

I'd like to shoot it but I'd really like to put in a modern locking block and recoil spring if possible Whoa that's a tough one. I THINK (as in, don't know) that the only changes to the locking block on the M9's were materials, not design. I would take my gun to the local gun shop and ask them if you could try a locking block from one of their gun in your gun just to see if it will fit. Some dealers may let you try it, some may not; just keep looking until you find someone who is kind and decent. While you're at it, try a locking block from a Taurus 92 since the Taurus 92's were licensed copies of the 92 (not the S, SB, or SBF), so the locking block is likely identical to the one on your 92S. |

The design actually changed during the M9 production span. Not just materials.
The change was minor, just the way they milled the thing out so there were less stress points to fracture. It's actually changed a couple times over the years, but it's not a major change. The locking blocks are still interchangeable with earlier ones in the M9/92F. The last change I know of required you to use the new style plunger with it and not reuse the old style plunger. Since the whole assembly comes out when you field strip it, that's a non-problem to begin with. The new assembly just drops in during reassembly. They're 100% compatible as the unit the user actually deal with. I don't know if they are compatible with the 92S. I don't see why they wouldn't be. Remember the XM9 was a 92SB-F, which was a variation of the 92S. I've also known people that have used Taurus blocks. So I think it's pretty good odds that the newer block works. I'd just find someone with a later 92FS and see if it works, or contact Beretta. With all the 92S's that have been imported in recent years, they would have addressed this question already and know the answer. |
