A friend of mine took his new 92FS out to shoot and noticed a gap in the metal. He wanted to know if that was supposed to be like that or is it broken. I know nothing about 92FS's and couldn't really tell myself. Is this gap normal?

Do further research, as I'm not 100%, but I'm almost certain I remember seeing that hole in all of our M9's while I was in the military. Double check, but I'm fairly certain that's correct.

YES. It's totally normal, I think Beretta puts it there as a joke to worry all first time 92FS owners.

Normal. It is supposedly to allow mud or other crud to be expelled fron the area of the safety / decock lever when you place a really dirty weapon on safe...added for the military trials.
