While shooting with a buddy last week, he instantly fell in love with my 2002 model Beretta 96 Compact Inox.      He wants the gun in a bad way and says he would consider trading a stainless Colt Special Combat Gov't 1911 if I put some cash with my Beretta.

I like my Beretta, but I also have a thing for Colt 1911's.    Only problem is I'll be stuck with about 2k rounds of .40 S&W ammo if I do the trade because the Beretta is the only .40 caliber handgun that I own.

So, here's the question....  realistically, what kind of money is my 96 Compact Inox worth, and how much $$$ would I need to put with it to trade for the stainless Colt Special Combat Government 1911?

I know Beretta Inox guns have gone up in price lately, and the Compact models aren't nearly as common as the standard full-size 92/96 guns.

What says the hive?

They are not easy to find.  Any gun is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.  I have a thing for them & would pay $800 for one in excellent condition because I have more money than brains (so says the wife).  I recently paid $800 for an inox 92fs compact & the 92's generally bring more than the 96's.  So it's worth at least that much.
There's a 96fs inox compact that sold on gunsamerica for $500, but I cant tell when that was.

Wow... so I got low balled last year while shooting at a local range.    Some guy said he wanted it, and was willing to buy it right out of my holster.    Glad I told him "no thanks".

$800 is probably top dollar.  If he offered you less than $600, it was lowball.
If the deal with your friend falls through, send me an email or PM for discussion outside of the technical forums.

The guy at the range offered $400 and acted like he was doing me a favor.    My Beretta still isn't for sale... the only thing making me consider it is the though of adding a nice Colt Special Combat to my collection.

If I were in your shoes, I'd keep the Beretta & pony up the $$ for a Colt.  The Special Combats are easy to find.  You'd be hard pressed to replace your Beretta.

That pretty much sums up my thought process.   Besides, if I sold the Beretta, I'd need to buy another .40 to use up the stash of ammo I've squirreled away over the years.
