out of those the G19--- Or maybe find a BHP --- feel some in the hand if you havent already its really personal choice. My experience with newer walthers and any XD or beretta is that the G19 is far superior in size, mag capacity, ease of operation/cleaning, and reliability--- hope that helps somehow. |
"cons" is subjective to mostly each user and his/her criteria and expectations (comfort level, price, quality, reliability, trigger, ergos, avaliability of mags/accessories/parts, etc) cons of P99: trigger pull, less available stuff, esp for the price XD: cons: trigger reset, narrow grip safety, sometimes parts HK: expensive for everything PX: trigger--kinda heavy for my tastes; less stuff for the price Glock: trigger contour some "cons", most of it just my .02c--YMMV |
i just have a question. have you even handled the guns on your wish list? IF not, do so. ALso, before you go choosiing a gun w/o trying them, i would look hi/low for some ranges that have them and rent them to try. you may whittle down your list real fast once you try them. and yes, they are good firearms. |

I have both a Glock 19 and a Walther P99 I would recommend the Walther P99. It has better ergonomics and it has interchangeable back straps adj sights. It is just as reliable if not more so. If you get the model with the AS trigger the trigger is much better than the Glock and it has a decock function and it can also be fired with the pistol decocked. |
If 007 doesn't kick your ass 008 will. I say that the G19, Beretta, and definitely the P30 are all greta choices on your list. What about a Browning Hi Power? |
I just went thru the same decision. Actually I picked out almost all the same handguns that you picked (except I listed the Sig Sauer 229 instead of the XD). I read a lot and handled as many as I could find and eventually took the plunge and bought a H&K P30. CDNN has them for $705. I knew it was pricey, but bought it anyway. I am very impressed with it. I have no buyers remorse. A lot of people like the G19, but I just can't get along with Glocks. So, for what it's worth, I chose the P30 and am very happy with it. |
| well guys i finally decided i cant decide so i'm buying the glock 19, and then the walther p99 in may. I went to a few gun shops and felt both loved em both and figured the 19 is cheaper and more practical at the moment also the only walther i found today had a QA trigger on em and i was told AS is probably a better deal. So yeah, buying the glock this month and the walther next month. |

Glock 19 is an excellent choice. Here's my patented Glock rant - check it out and feel free to IM with any questions. -Mike If it's going to be used for defense, do the following: 1) Replace shitty stock glock sights with proper steel sights (preferably night sights, preferably XS Big Dot sights )* 2) Don't f**k with the standard parts beyond the sights. Extended slide stops, mag releases, trigger weights and all the other thousands of aftermarket accessories are crap will make the gun less reliable. 3) Personally, I'm a fan of the 9mm glocks - specifically the Glock 19. The .40 round has a severe pressure curve that breaks guns (glocks as well as others) and I don't shoot it as well as 9 or 45. 4) Use FACTORY Glock parts - no aftermarket stuff (except the sights) 5) Get a good holster (Comp-Tac CTAC or Blade Tech IWB. have a lot of users that swear by them). I like the CTAC. I also picked up a Raven Concealment Systems holster and mag carrier - very slick, comfortable design and I like it a lot. It may be replacing the CTAC. 6) Get good self defense ammo and run at least a box through your gun to check for reliability (some guns are notoriously finicky with ammo - I have heard of VERY few glocks with ammo sensitivity issues FWIW) Look HERE for "Best Choices for Self-Defense Ammunition" 7) Get some formal training with a decent firearms school. IM me if you'd like some recommendations. 8) Glocks are the "AK" of handguns - they tend to work very reliably and go down a lot less than other types of handguns. They ARE man-made mechanical devices and they can break, have jams and get screwed up. This is why #7 is SO important - so you know what to do IF and WHEN something shitty happens. 9) What breaks on Glocks? anything can - I keep a complete spare parts kit in my range bag - springs, extractor, recoil assembly - basically any small parts I can think of 10) Wash, Rinse, Repeat. *Why Big Dot Sights? I've done a lot of Force on Force exercises and scenarios as a student and as a roleplayer. We've used converted Glock 17s - 2 of them with Big Dots and one of them with Meprolight night sights. By the end of day 1, NO ONE wants to use the standard night sights. Under stress (even the mock stress of FOF) the eye has a LOT of trouble focusing on your front sight. With the Big Dot, it provides a MUCH better reference point for where your gun is oriented and where you're going to make hits. I figure if a person wants personality, they can have it refinished. I find the work by Stang1 over in the refinishing forum to really add to the look of a plain GLOCK. |
Good choice. If you don't like the trigger contour, you can always put in a smooth trigger. I tried this with mine, and didn't like the smooth trigger though. The serations can rub your finger the wrong way after a day at the range. |
