[ARCHIVED THREAD] - 9mm vs .45 (Page 1 of 2)
IMHO, the problem with 9mm is that it is usually a NATO round, bound by the Geneva Treaty. If used with a suitable hollow expanding bullet, the 9mm is quite adequate against **most** human-sized targets. But if you are sleeping with a linebacker's gf, get a .45. Hell, get a .458 Winchester. |
How about 8 rounds of .45 versus 15-19 of 9 Or 9 rounds of .45 versus 20 rounds of 9mm Personally, I couldn't care less if it's 9 or .45 as long as it's got some good quality JHP in there. I feel more confident with the .45 but I also have a certain love for the delivery system that slings those .45 caliber slugs. |

Pffft. I just bought both..... An HK P30 and a HK45. In true ARFCOM fashion....I bought both. Either gun is going to placement my intended target down. Shot placement shot placement shot placement. You can carry a .44 Magnum all day long and its going to do very little for you if you can't hit crap with it. |
+1 I already have a Taurus PT-99 and a Glock 19. Now I just ordered a Sig Sauer P220R. I've been practicing quite a bit with the Glock 19. I hope that the skills I've developed will help me when I start shooting with the P220R. |
Not on moving targets, this was proven in the old west and is still proven today. I guess only hunters who use a shotgun and rifle would truly understand this. They are both compromises, and you have to weigh in your criteria for what you would want or need the weapon for. The close ranges that I deal with make the carbine a better choice(shot doesn't spread as far as 90% of the people think) along with the magazine capacity. |

Was talking about this today in regards to my deciding a P30 would be my new carry gun once a good holster is released for that purpose.... This helped make my decision......as you can see....there is very little difference between a .45 and 9mm. Ballistic Properties And Terminal Effectiveness |

Damn, the 10mm really does some damage! I still don't regret ordering my Sig Sauer P220R (.45 cal. ACP) and I am very comfortable with my new Glock 19 (9mm). Both will serve me well. |
And .45's apparently have absolutely no advantage over .40's |
