Does anyone have any experience with ACT mags?  It seems that they are the factory mags for Nighthawk, so I'm assuming they are GTG.  It also looks like Novak and Wolff mags are all made by ACT.   I was thinking about picking some up if they are the same as what came with my NH.  Thanks in advance

okay; start stocking up on Wilson Elite Tacticals.  they work great w/ NH, better than ACT which are hit or miss.  IMO based on experience with 14 of them.

I don't have any firsthand experience, let me be clear on that.

However, a buddy of mine has a Smith&Wesson Gunsite Edition 1911 Commander, and he loves the ACT-Mags it came with.

I've no complaints about either of the Act-mags that came with my S&W Gunsite 1911.

When I first got these mags they worked great but that didnt last long. About four or five months of less than regular use, the top/back (where the rear end of the round would sit) started to crack on both sides and on both mags. After dropping them to reload they would explode on the ground...the follower, spring and the body would go everywhere. I demoted them to "range only" mags whereas before they were duty mags. Now thy wont even feed due to the way the first round sits against the cracked back. I'll post pictures as soon as I can but if I were you I'd spend the extra few dollars on the wilson ETMs or 47Ds.

They are the only mags that work flawlessly in all of my 1911s.  I have used them in my last three classes and they were boringly reliable.

They should generally be fine mags, better than the general mag, but they aren't as good as Tripp mags or CMC mags.  A little worse than the Wilson ETM, in general, I'd guess but better than the 47D.

My understanding is that the tubes can come apart on some ACT mags that newer ones may or may not suffer from.

I've got two that came with my Nighthawk that work perfectly in both my Nighthawk and Springfield GI.  They are range mags, though, with the Wilson mags.  I only keep Tripp mags for carry/defense.

Thanks for the replies.  Sounds like these are kinda hit or miss.  I already have a few Tripps that I use with my TRP.  I think I might just get a few more of them, or maybe some ETM's to go with my NH

I have a Novak Marked ACT mag for my sig p220, works great, better than the factory sig mag and the finish has held up a lot better.  I was so impressed that I bought 5 ACT mags for my 1911's.. The only problem is that the base plate is really fat and won't allow the mag all the way in on my SA Operator with the mag coupler at the bottom, so I switched to Wilson Combad #47d's for that pistol.. I absolutely love the Wilson mags, but they are pretty expensive.  My other 1911's like the ACT mags and I've had no problem out of any of them.

... Just my experience!

I have 6 of these marked Nighthawk and they run in all of my guns . I have loaned them out at a few IDPA matches to guys that only had 7 round mags and they were flawless in other guns also.  On the other hand I have some Wilson ETM's that work in all my guns but a NHC GRP II, the rounds nose dive for some reason.

+1 on that.   After seeing your pics,  I went ahead and ordered some ETM's to try.  Hopefully they will work OK in my GRP

Wow.  yea, really.  I used to think Act mags were pretty nice, but those pics changed my opinion.  I don' t need problems like that.

I believe the cracking feed lips are the reason why Sig Sauer doesn't sell their 1911's with Novak/ACT mags anymore.

I got three with my YoBo Enhanced. Two seem to work ok and the third swelled in the tube and will not drop free consistently. This happend during the first 100 rounds through the gun. So my two working ACT mags are used for range use only. It's wierd, because MecGar mags are very similar to ACT, but have less (reported) problems. I only mention this since they are similar.
IMHO-You are better off with Wilson 47D or their Elite series, Cobra Mags, Checkmate or Chip McCormick with the Tripp-Cobra Mag Upgrade kits.

I only run ACT's in my 1911's, have 4, all different makes too.
Run 100% in all, no failures.
Plus they're $10 cheaper a piece than Wilsons.
YMMV
