The local funshop's got an AMT Backup in .380 for 199.

I know to steer clear of their 1911s, but how is the backup? It was really slim!

^that about sums it up

my dad had one for over 10yrs; only fed FMJs (if it fed reliably)--absolutely NO JHPs would feed (included: Fed hydra shoks, UMC JHPs, Win JHPs)

takedown is also a PITA, and this even goes for any kind of good cleaning; recoil is pretty stout too to the hand

imo, you would be better w/ a KT P3AT or better yet, a SW J-frame

I bought a M642, but my girlfriend stole it. Now it lives in her purse...

Thanks for the facts, guys. Avoid all AMTs...

No problems with my 45acp Backup (DAO brother to the .380 - not a Browning pattern).  Feeds Corbons fine.  Unpleasant recoil, but what do you expect.

They are hit/miss.  The .45 backup was a lot more popular.

Given the existence of the Kel-tec P3AT, I see no reason to buy an AMT .380.

Don't know about the .45.  The .380 I had was a malfing POS.  I'd get a P3AT first.   Oh, wait, I did.

I'm ashamed to admit that I've owned two of them in my younger/stupider days.  The firing pin broke on the first one.  I sold the second one shortly after I quit drinking and realized what a piece of shit it was.  They were much too heavy for their size IMO.

DON'T DO IT!  IT'S A TRICK!

Make sure you always wear protective glasses - for when the firing pin shoots back toward your face.
You can get a Keltec for the same price and carry it in your shirt pocket.
