Just picked up a M&P 40 and I definetly see the issues now with the trigger. Gritty and long.

I looked at APEXs website but see they offer several items for the M&P. Which is the drop in trigger kit that is generally considered the cats ass for these pistols? Its for a CCW weapon.

i installed an apex kit (DCAEK) duty/carry on my M&P .45c the other day, and loved it. my groupings were much tighter, trigger pull lighter and the reset was much better. however, be patient with the re-install of the pin through the trigger assembly and spring. it took me way longer to do than it should've, but once i got it right it was butta.

I just put a trigger in mine,  its the competition kit,  I think AEK.  Way better.  Havent had it out to the range yet so no report on shootability yet.

I have the Hard Sear, Ultimate Striker Block, and Competition Spring Kit, in my M&P 9FS with thumb safety. I ordered it that way, from G&R Tactical.  Trigger pull is slightly under 4#, and extremely smooth for a striker pistol.  Reset is nice and short, but not what will thrill the audible/tactile reset lovers.  I dig it, even for carry, since I use the thumb safety.  Some might feel better with the Duty/Carry Spring Set, for more pull weight.  For those who want a more positive tactile reset, the RAM achieves it (but isn't compatible with a thumb safety).

My M&P 9C (also with thumb safety) is box stock, and has a pretty nice trigger as-is.  I haven't put the weights to it, but it feels like about a 5 to 5.5# trigger, and exhibits no grit, or other odious qualities.  Reset is more positive on it, than on my modified M&P 9FS, for whatever that's worth.

For my M&P .45 (also with thumb safety), I'm going to try out the new FSS (Forward Set Sear) Kit, which comes with a nice aluminum trigger.  This kit gives less take-up, an earlier break, and less overtravel.  Word is that this kit gives a very 1911-like trigger quality.

I too installed a DCAEK but in my FS 9.  Night and day for shooting.  With duty carry, the springs are a tad heavier than competition. I installed it with YouTube of Randy Lee guiding for every component in the kit.  It's certainly something one can do themselves.

I recommend this APEX kit.  Though it's primarily for duty carry, I've been using it in competition without issue.

Like the others have said, you will want the DCAEK for your CCW pistol.
