| I was looking at one of these at Bachman Pawn & Gun (Dallas). It is $389 and made in the Philippines. It looks very well made and the owner says he owns one and it is good. I have never heard of the manufacturer. Does anyone have any information? |
The Rock Island gun , recommended by BobCole, is made in the Philippines, and is in fact made by ARMSCOR (it's ARMSCOR with an "S" in the middle, not "ARMCOR".) Same factory, same people. In the various gun forums you will see some good comments, and some bad comments, about ARMSCOR or Rock Island (Armory) guns. Just as you will see good and bad comments about Springfields, Colts, Kimbers, and whatever. Check your specific gun out yourself. Any manufacturer that produces thousands/tens of thousands of guns/millions of guns will produce some lemons. I'm sure you have read those posted complaints even from owners of Les Baers and Wilsons; and many from S&W, H&K and SIG owners. |

Brother Bob and I have differing opinions. His viewpoint is as valid as mine, in some respects. The Philippines can produce both good and bad products. Witness my current girlfriend vis-a-vis my ex-wife! The older Armscor, Rock Island, and Charles Dalys (all made by Armscor) were SHIT. The new ones are actually quite a good value. Best way to tell the difference is whether they appear to be CNC machined or not, and the good CDs have Novak style sights rather than the old GI style. You also might want to look at the Dan Wesson Pointman Minor. It is just a little bit higher up the price scale, but is made here in the USA, if you count Brooklyn, NY as part of the USA!!!
