For those that use them for dry fire practice, how much use do you think you typically get out of an A-Zoom? They hold up for quite a while, but eventually that piece in the primer pocket does wear in to the point that it's not doing much.

I wonder about the metal snap cap itself.   Some cheaper guns, like the Keltec SUB-2000, warn not to use aluminum cased ammunition so the chamber isn't damaged.   I'd much prefer to be chambering a plastic round with the A zoom style primer, vs. the metal round that it is.

I've used metal and plastic and they both wear out too fast. Most of my pistols have an external hammer, so I just stick an O ring or half of a foam earplug under the hammer and have at it. Cheaper and lasts longer than a snap cap.

Thanks, that's a good idea for the external hammer pistols. It will work well for dry fire practice with my CZ 75s, which is coincidentally what you have in that picture, am I correct?

Unfortunately I've been doing a lot of dry fire practice with my P7, as I've started using it as my carry gun. So that idea won't work there.

Great idea, can you pls show more pics of that O ring or foam, it's basically to stop the hammer to hit the firing pin right?

I'm actually on temporary duty in California, so all my stuff is back home. As you noted, the idea is stop the hammer from hitting the firing pin. If you take a foam ear plug, cut it in half, and shove it in the channel where the hammer falls it will do the same thing.

That O ring/foam plug is an excellent idea.  Never even considered it.

Just dig out the old rubber, shoot some silicone caulk in there and let it cure. Repeat as necessary.

The semi auto caliber a-zooms, I don't use very much.
For revolvers though, unless you make your own out of brass and a real bullet, they can't be beat, especially if you are practicing speed loading.  The weight of the aluminum dummies, drop right into the cylinders, the plastic ones don't with any consistency.  Ejection with revolvers is different obviously also, and they never go into the "chamber" either.
