I did some range shooting this week with my new (to me) Hi-Power. It seems to like CCI aluminum cased 115 gr. FMJ's better than Winchester Silvertips. Go figure. In both cases though, it is shooting a bit low at 20 yards. Groups were pretty poor at best, but the bore had not had the initial cleaning that I was meaning to give it. I decided to continue my functioning tests, but this time get a bit more serious with my groupings. As the gun was used, I'm not sure how many rounds were fired prior to shooting. I did a thorough cleaning tonight and plan on obtaining some better quality ammo for the next shoot. I was a bit disappointed in the Sivertips though. Is there a low profile adjustable sight that is adjustable for windage & elevation available? One that you would recomend? |

Well, to give you a benchmark of what to expect, my "new to me" Hi-Power shoots incredibly accurately at 75 feet (that's what I usually shoot at). It's dead-on. Sorry I can't help, but you shouldn't be getting sub-par accuracy like that. That's not to be expected. |
Well I didn't think so either. I hunt regularly with a Super Redhawk, and am quite successful with it. I also own three other handguns which I shoot somewhat regularly. So I guess what I'm saying is I'm not a bad shot when it comes to handguns. Unfortunately, the BHP is sitting in dead last in the accuracy department, at least with me shooting it. I gave it a thorough cleaning last night and picked up some Winchester 147 gr. hollow points (white box) from the gun store. They didn't have the "Ranger T" that everyone raves about on here, but I wanted to try a heavier bullet to see if it made a difference. My 10mm likes the heavies much better than the light defensive loads. Maybe the BHP is the same way. |

Different weight of bullets will obviously have different points-of-impact. Try different ammo & also have someone else try the gun as well. Might want to dry fire the gun & watch closely the front sight & see if you're pulling down on the trigger????? Been known to happen! ![]() Good luck! |

Well I tried out a variety of ammo today in my (freshly cleaned) BHP. Surprisingly the best plinking ammo was a tie between CCI "brass" and "aluminum" 115 gr FMJ. The Winchester white box 115 gr FMJ was very close behind. I also tried some defensive ammo, and was happy with the Winchester white box 147 gr HP's. I purchased a box of Hornady Custom 147 gr HP's at the range ($12.95 for 20 rounds), but they grouped horribly and quite low. A total waste of money considering the results the Winchester ammo achieved. Granted the bullet on the Hornady may be a better design, but I wouldn't trust it much beyond 15 feet to give good accuracy. I had only one hiccup in about 250 rounds. It was a FTE using the CCI aluminum cased stuff. Not bad considering it was 10 year old ammo. |
