Scooping my first SA soon, a basic Peretti 1873. I'd like to have a western belt setup but man would love to find something under or around $200.
Got any suggestions? |

Check on ebay, lots of affordable leather . Check for a double loop or mexican single or double loop.

Good leather is expensive. I have bought a couple rigs from Reddog Leather, Paul has an ebay site. His work is top notch.

for those that have a belt like these, how much bigger than your pants/jeans size did you go?
Some of what I've read on sellers' websites says to add about 4 inches. |

This style of belt has a separate billet and chape sewn on so it isn't as simple as just adding 4" to a belt blank. There is a "Point A" and a "Point B" that you measure from to get the proper fit. For example, I wear a 34" pants size waist so I added 4" to get 38". Using that measurement between "Point A" and "Point B" my belt blank measurement was 45" Hope this helps!  *Edit* Photo of billet and chape for those who are curious. One of these days I'm gonna mock up some toe plugs to practice on but I'm still also going to glue them. Getting the stitch spacing to jive on the radius of the toe plug and the outside of the holster is definitely going to take some practice! |

How much is one of your base rigs? I have a nice Slim Jim made by a guy on another forum for my 1858, need a gunbelt to match.
Eventually what I want is the Marnickle SASS starter rig, as soon as I get my other Uberti 1873. As you and others have already mentioned, gunleather is not cheap! That's why I decided to go at it myself. I have/make the time for my hobbies and I will always try before buy. I knew I would be making more than 1 (if, of course, I was capable of doing it in the first place) so, my initial cost in tools and materials would quickly be negated. Finally, it feels good to learn a new skill and be able to say "yep, I made this myself" |
