Just curious if anyone had done any scientific random tests with a flgr and swapping it for the regular 1911 guide rod.

I have done some  un-scientific testing, and I couldn't tell a difference.

The only practical use that I see for the full length guide rod is to place a bit more weight close to the muzzle, to reduce recoil and muzzle flip.

I have never timed myself to see if that works, and I can't tell much difference otherwise, though maybe a little.

I have given up on full length guide rods, though I still have a tungsten one around some where.

Others swear by them, however.

No, there is no accuracy difference and I wouldn't expect there to be.

The FLGR does put a little non-reciprocating weight up front that maybe tames muzzle flip a bit.   They also make it easier to take down a bull barrel gun, and remove the top end as a unit (handy if you have a caliber conversion).   Outside of that there isn't much benefit.

I believe American Handgunner had a writer do an extensive test and the GI guide bested it by a few thousandths. I shot a Heinie rod and liked the forward balance but it snapped at the head and went pinging downrange on the floor of the indoor  range. I only have one FLGR left on an STI.
