| Hi, I'm actually Sabrina, vigils wife, but we only have one ip email address so i'm using his log on. Anyways I have a quick question about ankle carry. I'm interested in purchasing either a Sig P238 or Kahr PM9. I like the look and function of the P238, but ammo cost for .380 is pretty high. I'm also interested in the PM 9 because you can get it in either 9mm or 40 S& W. The question is which would be better for mostly ankle carry? The reason for ankle carry is I'm almost always in flared jeans and tennis shoes with my work as a police dispatcher. I thought about purse carry, but that last thing i want is for a purse snatcher to get my gun. Also because i live in Hawaii we don't wear a lot of baggy or heavy clothes so waist carry can be a problem. Thanks for the insight. |

The only recommendation I can make for ankle carry is to get the lightest of the two.
I carry my BUG on my ankle, but that's in boots with a G19. If I was carrying ankle without the benefit of boots to strap the holster onto, I would want the lightest gun that's not going to dig into my ankle too much. Have you thought about a 442? |

Don't forget to get a quality holster. I bought a mid-range ankle holster just to try out for my Glock 27. It had the soft lining on the inside, and was made of elastic & nylon. It wasn't bad for a day or two, but beyond that I started feeling like I was getting a bruise on my anklebone from where the muzzle end of the gun would ride / bump. I returned the holster within a week.
I'm thinking of getting the Galco version. I'm also thinking the calf strap would be a good thing. |

My wife for the longest besmirched ankle carry. Said it hurt, it was hot, it was bla bla bla. Now, I can't get my holster back. She carries the Kahr MK9 (PM9 but all stainless) in an Alessi ankle holster. I've had to order another one just so I can have a BUG. Hope this was helpful. |

Yes, the calf strap is a big benifit...I use the cheap ankle holsters (Uncle Mike's) for my G27 and LCP, Could not do it without the straps. The holsters run $33 and work well once fitted and in the correct positon. The LCP sits a little deep so a pinky extension is good.... |

Wow, if you can get a permit to carry in HI, more power to ya. Kahr PM9 would be as light as a J-frame, even a Smith 442. Better to have 9mm than .380ACP, as far as the choices you listed. Wait? You live in Hawaii and you conceal carry? To my knowledge a permit has really been issued. As in like three times. But as for carrying on the ankle. I've carried a Smith & Wesson Model 642 on my ankle for the last six years. I use a DeSantis Die Hard Ankle Rig. Most comfortable holster for ankle carry in my opinion. |

The Alessi ankle holster is definitely my first choice for concealment. I carry the MK9. I think as a female we have more options than males but at times have to sacrifice your "girly" side. So with my outfits I decide which holster to use. When I'm wearing pants I go to the ankle holster I literally forget it's there. I can't really wear heels with them because it's just awkward for me and it feels like I'll lose my balance. Instead I wear flats with them and socks. I found out in one other forum that someone recommended wearing 2 pairs of socks with the holster foot. I had problems with it slipping/swimming around so that tip helped but it wasn't comfy and got too hot. So this might sound odd but I slip on one of those wristbands (sweatband - terry cloth) over my sock and it works like a charm!!!

| I have been ankle carrying a bug for years. I currently carry a G26 in a Renegade ankle holster. Before that a S&W442. Do yourself a favor and get a good holster. An inexpensive one will be uncomfortable, and could lead to nerve damage with extended use. If you have small ankles the 442 type BUGs are easier to carry without discomfort. |
| I'm sorry guys I should have been clearer. We're going to be moving to Virgina soon and with the summer heat there I don't for see my style changing to much. so i wanted to pick up my carry weapon early so i have ample time to train with it. Thanks again for all the advice. |
