So, I am finally about ready to dive into the world of 10mm.
I am mainly looking for a camping / woods gun to carry when I am camping or archery hunting (yes, we can carry a handgun while archery hunting here). I'm not really planning on hunting with it, just mainly more for protection when I'm out. I am in AZ, so I don't have to worry too much about polar bears or anything too large..  But I do want something more than my 9mm.
So, with that in mind... G20 or G29? If I get the G20, at most, I'll add a light and night sights to it. But the G29 is smaller, easier to carry / conceal and can take 15rnd mags and the barrel is less than 1" difference. Is there that much of a difference between the 2 for a camping gun if not hunting? Also, can someone point me in the right direction for some good 10mm ammo for backwoods carry? |

Don't currently have one, but will buy another if I ever get back into the great outdoors. I say get a Glock 20. In the middle of nowhere, concealment isn't a big factor. It is a Glock, so weight isn't that big a deal with the polymer frame and all. I would definitely finger fuck one before I buy. I got rid of my Glock 20 in part because I didn't shoot it much, but mainly because the grip was too big. I get a substantially better grip on my G21 SF.Â
One other thing I did for shits and giggles right before I sold it was shoot 40S&W out of it. As those who've tried it said, it works fine. Zero malfunctions in the 100 rounds I tried. Might call around to the local indoor gun ranges. Some will rent guns. Glocks are usually available.
As to the ammo.............check out the lighter faster loads. 155 to 175 grain HP..................the 200-230 grain stuff can be a little much if hot loaded. Good luck |

I bought a G40 and put a Burris FF3 on it for woods carry in a chest holster.
I hate to say this, but my Ruger Blackhawk .357 custom gun does not get used much anymore. Having 16 rounds of 10mm vs 6 of .357 is nice, in a just-in-case type situation. The presence of cartel type drug operations here in Idaho has dramatically increased in the last few years, and encountering one is not something I want to do. I used to carry just a .22 1911 and a .22 rifle when out shed hunting or just wandering about. Now, I carry the G40 a d maybe a rifle, such as my 1895 45-70, or the .12 GA with buckshot and slugs. I do get some odd looks from the tree hugger hikers, and questions about why the artillery. But after explaining that after 32 years as a cop, they either walk away shaking their heads, or they ask questions about what they should carry. |

Get the 29SF, it carries like a G19 but has twice the energy.
Longtime reloader here so I make my own warm 10mm rds. Try Buffalo Bore for full house Factory ammo. 
My old G19 next to G29SF. 
My top load is 10gr of 800X and a 180gr XTP. Averages 1430fps/800fpe in the G40, same ammo in the G29SF is still easy to control. Watch my son nail these jugs with that load.  Glock 29SF 10mm being fired with max loads. Have not chronoed it yet but I SWAG it is still 700fpe. They have it sprung just right. Freedom Munitions 180gr [weak loads] are cheap for pratice ammo if you don't load yet.  Glock 40 MOS 10mm making 800ft/lbs |
I have a Gen 3 20SF, but only because they didn't have the 40 back when I was in market. If you only want a carry gun and get the smaller 29. I too would check out Underwood. You might also consider a heavier spring I use a 22Lb especially if you plan on splitting atoms
